Still a lot here to compete but changes are needed

Created by: bnormie46
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2022
Published: May 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
General Thoughts
-With a good coaching staff they can improve a lot
-They have a top goalie, high end players like Dubois, Connor, Ehlers, Morrisey that it can work
-Perfetti and Samberg will be very very important next season
-A lot of other guys like Lowry, Pionk, Svench (if used properly), Barron, Appleton, Dillon and Wheeler
- If Wheler stepped down from captain ( C to Morrisey) and player a 3rd line role, he can still be utilized well and give solid depth scoring
-Comrie should play more games, easier on Helle
-Schmidt, SCheifle and Stanley probably done here
- If Heinola was moved I wouldn't be upset
- Lucius and Gus and Possibly Chisholm will be big parts soon.

-IF they can figure out a proper coaching structure, 2c sand manage tweak the D core this team will be a lot better.

It's possible that good coaching could go a long way. Look at Calgary. Same group of players but better coaching aided by 3 guys having career years.

If the Jets could get some solid coaching and have a few guys overperform, it could go a long way for a positive turnaround.

After seeing what I saw from Samberg this season it would be a dumb decision to move him. Best partner for Pionk we have seen so far. Heinola is too undersized and doesn't show any toughness.

I’m a huge Samberg fan. I say use Heinola in a scheifele deal to get more.

We don't need to move the C away from Wheels ..he just is a 3rd line captain...not a big deal

I wasn't a very big Samberg fan and was really high on Heinola but after this season I've really changed my tune, I'd keep Samberg around and trade Heinola, seems like Heinola is on for a lot of goals against, he struggles with the defensive side of the game. About the only way I'd keep Heinola was if Morrissey was traded but that seems unlikely.

I've watched some Moose games lately and Chisholm looks as good or even better than Heinola does, Chisholm is a quicker skater and doesn't seem so lost defending his own goal.

I'm pissed they didn't get Gawanke in for a game at the end of the season, they had one or two recalls left so could've used one, he looks quite good with the Moose, very smooth, activates well to join the rush and has a pretty heavy shot, decent size too.

Heinola is the only real offensive dman in the team. None other dman in the team reads the game as he does. His transition abilities are NHL calibre, he makes smart decisions, he can actually entry the OZ which is something Jets defense were brutal in for the last couple of years. Don't trade Heinola at any cost, he is the 1PP guy we need. Analyticall he was the very best AHL dman this year, just look that up. We have one hell of an asset in him and it would be absolutely dumb to trade him just because he lacks toughness. I would say Q. Hughes lacks toughness too (and is actually smaller than Heinola) but you wouldn't trade that player away, right? Pair Heinola with DeMelo who makes every single player better. Just look at Jmo this year with DeMelo, finally playing up to that contract. Heinola is not going to crush player to the boards but he is the kind of a dman you need in modern NHL to have the much needed complexity.

Gawanke is currently the Jets top non-NHL dman. After Samberg and Heinola, he is the one who needs to come up for the right side. It's not Chisholm, unfortunately
