If the Coyotes wanted Matthews right now

Created by: Angusc
Team: 2022-23 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2022
Published: May 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hypothetically, if Arizona's ownership was impatient with their rebuild and they want Matthews on their roster right now. The rest of the moves listed are just cap dumps from cap strapped teams in Vegas and Colorado. Toronto as well given they spend half of their cap on 4 forwards and will eventually have to move one of them out sooner or later.

But realistically, they should stay on the course of their rebuild now if they get Shane Wright by taking on bad contracts while getting picks and prospects.

The thing is Toronto wont want to move Matthews as why would they hes playing his best hockey rn and they are trying to compete for a cup and not retooling

Sure the 2022 1st has a chance of being Wright but still were not in rebuild mode and Matthews rn is one of if not the best goal scorer in the NHL

Only way this has any remote chance of happening is if for some crazy reason matthews forced a trade to Arizona.

Not happening. Arizona's only shot will be when Matthews hits UFA.

EJ isnt a cap dump, COL wont need to add to move him.
COL is happy to hold onto him next year as hes still got gas left in the tank.
This year was on par with some of his best seasons in the past 6-7 years

Seems like a lot to give up for two years of Matthews and then have him leave as UFA.
