My top 5 trade targets

Created by: Claesson4Norris
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2022
Published: May 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not including DeBrincat because I don't think there's a chance in hell he actually gets moved.
Trades
1.
OTT
  1. Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The highest upside of the bunch, will also cost the most to acquire, and has a major payday upcoming. My opinion the single best player fit of these, would be absolutely electric with Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson.
MIN
2.
OTT
  1. Konecny, Travis
Additional Details:
Skilled player who plays a very Sens brand of hockey. Likes to get under the skin and agitate. A great RW for Stützle with Ottawa prefers keeping Batherson with 7 and 9. Has ties to Ottawa as a 67 legend, which is always a bonus.
PHI
3.
OTT
  1. Boeser, Brock [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I think he probably gets a lot more shit than is probably fair. I think he's a really good player, and could easily find that next level with Stützle. Injuries are a concern, and him being due a big extension isn't ideal.
VAN
4.
OTT
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
Think got less upside than the others, but I really like his game, and his contract value is hard to beat. Would be a solid top 6 option for Ottawa.
VAN
5.
OTT
  1. Schmaltz, Nick
Additional Details:
Probably the one I'd be most iffy on. Has had an up and down career, but when he's firing on all cylinders he's a damn good player. His inflated shooting % this season is cause for concern, but he's got a solid contract, and experience as a C which would be really helpful for Stützle.

Konecny and Garland are my favs of this bunch, but perhaps Keller in ARI would be an option, particularly over Fiala. I'd flip the 1st rounder this year and maybe even package in White/Zaitsev + additional picks and prospects for the dude, he was on fire in Arizona of all places, imagine him next to Stu

Garland or Konecny as well for me are the best options. I would go nowhere near Fiala he is going to get way overpaid in a long-term deal this summer and Sens should keep that cap space for Stu, Norris, Formenton, Joseph, plus other prospects that are gonna need 2nd contracts in 3-5 years.

I don't think you can get Keller out of Arizona right now, and I wouldn't mind Boser for his style of play with Stu, but the injuries and the $$ he is going to want kinda scare me away as well I would rather move forward with Batherson playing the RW with Stuzle and moving someone else on the RW with Norris and Thachuck.

Just moving someone up on the RW isn't good enough. I don't like Connor Brown with Tkachuk and Norris when they've done it, and while Joz played fantastically in that role, that was a tiny sampling and not even close to enough to justify standing pat. They can't do nothing and expect to be closer to the playoffs.

Boeser is a good player, I just wonder if he's a fit in Vancouver with the style they want to play. And their current cap structure makes it difficult to risk the 7.5 million dollar QA. I do think he'd be a good fit in Ottawa, a team looking to take the next step up from the rebuild and with the cap space to take that risk.

The Sens have a good young player with the potential to fill a need for Van in Zack Ostapchuk. Ostapchuk and Ottawa's 2nd pick would do it, in my books. Then the Canucks can use the cap space to sign a winger who is a better fit with Horvat, like Strome or Domi.

unlikely that he is available but worth kicking tires on Ehlers

Think Ostapchuk is making Ottawa think twice about including him in any trade packages. 16 points in 6 playoff games, including 5 and 6 point nights, with two game winning goals under his belt. I'm not going say he's anywhere in the untouchable category, but he's still just 18, you probably wanna wait to see a little more first. Sens have plenty of prospects in a similar tier though, I would think getting an RHD would be the top priority for VAN though.

Sure, but I imagine that's a nonstarter. If I'm WPG I'm shipping out Scheifele and I'm doing everything I can to get Wheeler off the team. But when it comes to other major pieces like Hellebyuck Ehlers, Morrissey and Connor, I'm betting on them providing a better leadership environment than Scheifele and Wheeler. You give that group a shot before you go full tear down.

after seeing the Canucks presser and hearing about the stuff Boeser is currently going thru it is a reality check for all the 'fans' that dump on players for underperforming or being streaky.
You never know when there is an underlying personal situraiotn or injury ( Monahan ) that is causing a player to be off his game. Players just don't lose it overnight.

I know the Flyers really liked Ridly Greig at the draft.
Could be something there centering around Konecny for Greig, assuming that Ottawa adds a bit more

Eh, I don't think I'd move Greig in a Konecny deal. I'm pretty high on Greig's upside as a top 6 guy, and long term I think Ottawa probably regrets that swap. Greig is just such a perfect encapsulation of all the things Ottawa values. Son of a former pro, brings that captain leadership, plays with a gritty edge, kills penalties, can score goals in all situations. And he's got bonafide skill that i think lands him in the top 6 most of his career. My guess is that it would have to be an elite impact winger (Nylander, Ehlers, Fiala) to get Dorion to bite on moving him.

I agree that Ottawa should hold on to him, I like his game a lot as well. But I have to imagine he's the guy Philly asks for in a TK to Ottawa trade.

I would think a guy like Bernard-Docker would rate pretty highly for the Flyers. Maybe I'm missing things because i don't follow Philly, but that RHD side is pretty pitiful. A guy who is ready to step into an NHL lineup on that right side seems like a great fit. Not much offensive upside (though more effective than his AHL production would indicate imo), but a lot of defensive upside, potentially slotting in a Justin Braun type role long term.

Fiala ideal, wont cost what many of you think he will cost in a trade...
Konecny, Travis his goal scoring is heading in the wrong direction, not type of player OTT needs, 3 years left at 5.5m is his scoring continuers to decline could be a Drouin situation
Boeser, Brock cannot stay healthy, will impact his production, at 7.5M QO stay away
Garland, Conor not a goal scorer, not type of player OTT needs, pass
Schmaltz, Nick never ever ever touch a player in a career year after several year of mediocracy, will end up biting the sens in the butt.
