Millers trade options

Created by: Angusc
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2022
Published: May 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thought about trade options for Miller. Since his agent said that one of his goals is to stay in Vancouver, this will most likely not happen, which would be unwise of management, as our weaknesses have been not trading players with highest value and letting them walk in FA (Tanev for example).

I excluded Pittsburgh, Rangers and Boston since it is the same old trades of Marino, Schneider and Carlo. But I included options from other teams that have the most cap space, enough high prospects, and can afford a year of Miller next season. Note, these are very limited. and I put some hypothetical ones

What the Canucks are looking for is again: a right hand defenseman or a offensive player with upside, a high prospect and a high draft pick.

Trades
1.
VAN
This is only if they want to do this deal which is highly unlikely. (Jeannot is untouchable) But Carrier or Fabbro is the main focus. Options are:

    Alexander Carrier/Luke Kunin/2022 1st
    Dante Fabbro/Luke Kunin/2022 1st
    NSH
      J.T Miller
      2.
      VAN
If the Devils want to be competitive and make the playoffs. One of the options listed are Severson and Zacha is the main focus. (Not sure why the Canucks are high on Zacha, but still)

        Damon Severson/Pavel Zacha/2022 or 2024 1st
        Damon Severson/Janne Kuokkanen/2022 1st
        NJD
          J.T Miller
          3.
          VAN
This is if the Jackets feel compelled to make the playoffs or be competitive next season. I've noticed that many GMs are very reluctant to give their 1st pick away. But Boqvist will be the focus. Options are:

            Adam Boqvist/Liam Foudy/2023 2nd
            Adam Boqvist/Kirill Marchenko/2023 2nd
            Adam Boqvist/2022 1st/2023 2nd
            CBJ
              J.T Miller
              4.
              VAN
Options are very limited since it seems there are lots of untouchables (Jarvis, Necas etc). But bringing in Bear would be the main part of the package. Options are:

                Ethan Bear/2023 1st/2023 2nd
                Ethan Bear/Noah Gunler/2022 1st
                Ethan Bear/Vasili Ponomaryov/2023 1st
                Ethan Bear/Max Domi/2023 1st
                CAR
                  J.T Miller
                  5.
                  VAN
Hypothetically, this trade happens if Vegas sheds enough cap and if the Canucks is willing to retain salary which is highly unlikely. Based on the Eichel trade, they like to bring in star players. If they do this trade, the focus is Whitecloud or Coghlan

                    Zach Whitecloud/Evgeni Dadonov/2023 2nd.
                    Dylan Coghlan/Evgeni Dadonov/2023 1st
                    VGK

For 1 year? You need to adjust your expectations.

Can’t imagine devils want Miller. Garland/Boeser/Hoglander/Hughes/Demko all make more sense, especially if they’re throwing around 5OA

I wouldn’t move Boqvist if im Jarmo, and honestly I’d just wait to offer Miller as a UFA unless Vancouver was foolish enough to move him for Foudy, Bean, Bemstrom and a 2nd.

I highly doubt Miller makes it to UFA. He most likely extends in Vancouver or extends in the team he is traded to

I wouldn’t be too sure, if he prices himself out of Vancouver or if he’s traded as a rental he will likely be a UFA, or maybe he wants to test the open market to see what he can get. You never know what’s going to happen. Look at Giroux or Kadri, at the start of the year no one thought either of them would be UFAs be here we are.

You've included many teams that aren't going to make the playoffs next season, so no way they give up so much for a one year rental. That Vegas doesn't solve the Vegas cap issues.

I wouldn't put any credence at all in what a player or agent says about contract negotiations. Miller probable best return was last TDL, but for whatever reason, the Canucks didn't make a deal.

Do Zacha and Kuokkanen have similar value?
Do Marchenko and Foudy have similar value?

I love the options in the trades. But some of those choices would be easy for me.

The ones for Vegas are just hypothetical trades which most likely won't happen. But I put them in there since they like to gamble big with the Eichel trade again.

And yes, I agree with you they missed the mark on the deadline to trade him at the deadline. It was his max value, but most likely I think they didn't get offers that were enticing to say the least.
