What if we cannot sign Bratt-

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2022
Published: May 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Maybe he wants too much money…or wants the sunshine…or to pump his own gas.

But if we cannot re-sign Bratt, for whatever reason, who would be the interested parties? (And would it be by trade or offersheet?)

I’d love Bratt in Toronto but it doesn’t make sense with the cap sadly. Jersey should definitely keep the guy, absolute stud

Of course they will do everything they can. And really no reason to think he won’t resign. Just curious in a “what if” scenario.

Who would want to pump their own gas? Seems lame

But I think Bratt stays based on his end-season interview

My preference would be Carolina. Scott Morrow, perhaps?

My preference would be outside the division.

And is Morrow the type of dman we need? His game is all offense.

First things first, they better pay this man, he's a terrific player.

But I'll play along with this scenario. If I'm trading him to LA, then it better be for a package including Brandt Clarke

I have heard it’s a thing people do in other states/provinces. Might be folk lore.

For now. He's got the potential to be quite effective at defense, too. I think if you're trading Bratt you don't worry about team need and get the best return possible.

If Bratt was available, the Sens would for sure put in an offer for him. They might be willing to do 7oa + a prospect like Jarventie if they really believe in him (which I would hope they do). Could also do a higher quantity package that includes a RD prospect if you don’t get Jiricek or Nemec and really want to fill that hole (our 2nd this year, one of JBD/Thomson [note: I wouldn’t include either of these with 7oa], plus a couple more pieces like Jarventie and maybe a goalie prospect like Merilainen or Mandolese).

He’s a left shot that normally plays the RW right? Has he ever played LW, and which side suits him more if so? Also, what is your projected contract for him? I’m assuming something like 8 years at 7-8mil per might get it done (presumably we’d want to lock him up long term if we’re giving up 7oa for him).

He’d probably look good as the RW alongside Formenton and Stutzle (might be the league’s fastest line) or the LW with Stutzle and Batherson. He fits nicely in the age curve of the Sens, cap space won’t be an issue for us signing him, and you should be able to draft Jiricek and a highly skilled forward (Lekkerimaki or Kemell?) with two top 10 picks. Seems like a decent swap if you guys can’t come to terms.

Yeah, unless Hughes is in that deal, Morrow isn't moving. The fact he's putting up better developmental numbers at UMass than CALE MAKAR did has the organization quite high on him.

No one will offer sheet bratt. It wouldn’t work or you would have to pay so much it wouldn’t be worth it.

Hague, Kakko, and Fiala are the types that you offer sheet because it could be successful. Doesn’t mean it will be but the likelihood is higher.

Offersheet would be unlikely considering nobody is going the 4 first round picks route for Bratt, and anything below that NJ matches easily.

?????? Can't sign Bratt". Well unless Bratt retires, the Devils have NHL control over him, So unless he wants to play on Sweden or Russia for 500,000 why wouldn't he sign with the Devils? He is arbirtation eligible so there is method for both parties. He's an RFA, kinda silly about him not signing an NHL contract.

He really could be an interesting move for Sens. While you feel like the Sens have tons of cap space, it would make no sense to move him in for more than $5-6 long term, which is what he is going to want. You have to do Norris this year and then Stuzlte next summer, Norris is likely $7-8 or more long term, and Stuzle if he continues to grow would be completely right to ask for $8-9 or more. Then you still have Sanderson, Formenton, Joseph, Pinto, and another goalie outside of Murray to fill in the roster. So it gets tight quick.

That said I would total look into a move something like 2nd and lodin or Jarventine, or a package deal with JDB. Then say a contract of $5 mill x 7 years. You could do a lot with the top 6 then, and he does mostly play RW.

                              Brady - Norris - Bratt
                              Formenton - Stuztle - Batherson

Good thing for you the Canes arent trading Morrow.

We have plenty of offensive dmen...at NHL level and in pipeline. Not sure he would even be the guy we'd ask for.

Yeah, unless Hughes is in that deal, Morrow isn't moving. The fact he's putting up better developmental numbers at UMass than CALE MAKAR did has the organization quite high on him.

                              Oh.
Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt for Scott Morrow.

                              I gotta remember that one.

The Devils will resign Bratt. No question. We want him back, he wants to be here, we have cap space. Shouldn't be an issue.

Just curious what teams would be interested in alternative scenario.

                              Hoglander, Boeser, and a 23' 1st maybe

We'd never get that. Maybe two of the three.
