Cap Getting Tighter around the neck

Created by: User123409871234
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2022
Published: May 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In theory here - Dumba is the only player that HAS to move out - but makes the most sense as RHD are for some reason notoriously over-valued. If he shot left handed I would say the wild would be lucky to get a 2nd and 5th for him.

With a flat cap - Fiala will have a hard time going most places and getting more $ than this - he has said multiple times as of recently that his come-up has been due to the fact that he doesn't care about individual stats but that he just wants to win - which they have done a lot of. If he truly just wants to win, the list of teams able to sign him for more than 7.5 Dwindles even further, so could absolutely see him staying here in MN opposite Boldy, as they burned the first year of Boldy's contract in part to give Fiala the winger opposite him that he has been longing for since he was traded here.

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. 2022 1st round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Might be a little bit much - but probably about right. Will be a mid first for Dumba as DAL will probably have to replace Klingberg here
2.
MIN
  1. 2022 5th round pick (TBL)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Give Tampa a cost controlled Middle/bottom 6 player for 1 year - would think these picks are about reasonable.

I don't see them moving Gaudreau. Guerin LOVES the guy, he raved about him on Russo's podcast. Honestly I have to agree with Guerin, he has been very good for us this year and he's on a bargain of a contract for what he provided. I think Kulikov is the odd man out this offseason over Gaudreau.

I'd also be surprised if that's what Fleury signed for, I feel like he gets at least $3M AAV

My guess is they'd move Kulikov, Jost or not having both Talbot/MAF before trading Gaudreau.

Really comes down to what Dumba wants for his next contract. Would be annoying to see them let a similar player in Klinger go for nothing then give up a first round pick just to be in the same situation next year

I can see that - would you see Gaudreau sliding to 4C then and Rossi 2C? I don't know that Rossi would be effective as a 4C.

Unless Rossi blows the doors off in training camp, he very well could start in Iowa again. Or Fiala would be moved and Rossi and Gaudreau both play on that line.

That's what I would do if we keep Fiala. Rossi shouldn't see any minutes on the 4th line IMO, his game does not fit that role at all. If they aren't comfortable with him in the top 6, I'd just let him marinate more in Iowa getting top line minutes and 1st unit PP time.

My guess is he can't demand out of this world money as he doesnt produce as well as he used to and can't stay on the ice.

Guerin (I hope) would trade Jost 100 times before he would/should trade Gaudreau! I’m not much of a Jost fan and Freddy has been terrific!
