Seems to me Engvall may have had a career year.
Wood's got a consistent track record of putting up significant production with limited ice time and possess a playing style unique to the organization.
Part of why the Devils PK has been average is mostly due to goaltending but the absence of Wood may have contributed further to that.
Besides, if Devils are moving Wood out I can't see that they'd be looking for a bottom six winger in return. He'd likely be packaged with something else for a goalie.

As for value, I suppose it's rather fair.
I just don't see a fit.

I think they qualify him, or work out an extension at around 3m.
Though there might be developments regarding his hip injury leading to Devils walking away from Wood.
I'd want him to stick around for at least one more year anyway, doesn't matter much to me if he walks an UFA after that.

NJD themselves are in the market for heavier style type forwards. I don't get the vibe they want to move on from Wood.

It’s been reported a deal came close in January. I think with the flexibility of the offseason, more teams will poke around. For once, I am actually optimistic that we will get good value in a trade this offseason. Im sure there will be at least one desperate GM after the playoffs conclude who wants to improve quickly

Devils really lacked Wood's physically and speed this year. They literally had Mason Geertsen as his replacement (down tremenously). They will probably give him 1 year, $3M and see how he does.
