theoretically maybe parise could? he played center a few times this season, if you bump pageau up to 2C and then have parise at 3C maybe it works? or if räty is nhl ready? you'd have to get rid of bailey to do it but those could be alternatives. don't love the trade as a concept? but like to make it more functional

how about debrusk+ reilly+3rd? NYI needs more scoring wingers and LHD's and the B's need a C. this way both teams fill holes in their line-ups

Meh, this guts the RW group and you'd be buying high on Nelson. No way he's shooting 20%+ again

I think the “boston needs a 2C,” stuff is over. Haula filled taht position really well. I was dead wrong on that one.

true that's why i say replace smith for reilly.
nelson has been a pretty consistent 20-25 goal guy and 50 points playing in a defensive system. like look at barzal's numbers he's been averaging 60-70 points anywhere with more offensive star power and he is probably a consistent high 80's to low 90's guy.

nelson also brings that higher tier net front presence B's have been looking for since we lost lucic he'd be good on the PP1 to get pasta's deflections and rebounds, nelson is built for playoffs.

Im sure hall would put up high 50's to low 60's assist numbers having pasta and nelson as his linemates both are great shooters

haula fits well style wise and because he has relatively good chem with them but nelson is individually more skilled and would pose a more consistent threat.
everyone caves in on hall and pasta leaving haula open lots to make a play, add nelson to that line instead it could free up more room for those 2 and even if it doesn't id trust nelson with the shot or play more then haula

i was hesitant until the WHL playoffs though his linemates are putting up points everything i have read as shown that lysell is the only very real threat and has put the team on his back a lot so with that being said i think he will definitely get his 10 game try-out from there though we will see how he performs. I wish he was a C his skill, speed and overall offensive dominance would be very nice alongside hall and pasta

imo that's not good enough. the isles would want reilly but you can't trade your 2C for like two third round assets and debrusk. add a first instead of the 3rd or replace both the pick and reilly with gryz and that's closer

i think the B's would give like
debrusk+reilly+2nd or a 3rd+studnicka but i don't think they will move another 1st unless it's for like chychrun/scheifele/ Miller or Horvat it would have to be a bonafide first pair dman or 1C, No doubt i think nelson is good but he isn't a 1C and especially since debrusk has been very good lately his value is no longer low anymore.
even though half the season he played bad he still had more 5v5 goals then Laine/ Svechnikov/ rantanen/ Wilson and many more guys who are considered "elite snipers" and i think his production would continue at that pace if he was given the chance to player with barzal and lee or barzal and beauvillier

i just don't see them selling nelson (without another C to fill his role) without either a top pick or having filled both major holes. debrusk + gryzcelyk would be an offer they'd listen to. reilly's a guy boston's been scratching regularly, his value's not super high right now. they'd certainly be interested in him but not as one of the main pieces in a nelson trade.

Maybe, but he needs to add some bulk. Boston typically likes their prospects to get some AHL time before coming up

Isles dont touch this deal. A good 2 way C who scored 37 this year, even though thats not gonna happen again youre buying high on a guy yet there isnt much value here. Debrusk is a nice piece but he didnt even hit 45 points playing with bergeron and marchand. Smith doesnt help us at all as a rental middle 6 winger, and a late 3rd. Instead of the 3rd put in rielly bc thats been the agreed price and they already have 3 other LD and now you can keep smith. And instead of smith who i doubt the isles want put in a later 1st rounder (or the equivalent). You arent getting a guy who scored 37 for less than that.

Oh I'm not saying the deal OP has gets it done, but a team would be dumb to pay a premium for a career year on Nelson. The DeBrusk comment is a little misleading as he spent less then half a season playing with Marchand & Bergeron. In the games he did the last part of the season.

32gp / 16g / 9A

That's good for around 40g/20a over 82gp.

This feels like a deal where neither side is happy, which means it's probably a very fair value.

Nelson might not have another 35+ goal season in him, but he's proven throughout his career that he is very dependable for 25 goals and strong 2-way play. I feel like that makes him more valuable than DeBrusk, who plays the wing instead of center and hasn't shown the same consistency to this point in his career (okay rookie season, good sophomore year, 2 forgettable seasons, then a bounce back this year - I feel like you can call him inconsistent if still very talented.)

Craig Smith is also a great player but adding him to the Islanders just gives them too many forwards under contract for next year - they'd either have to move out one of their own guys, or they can switch it up and take a player from a position Boston is stacked at in LD. Reilly is a fine player, but I feel like JDB+Reilly for Nelson needs Boston to add (2nd/3rd rounder maybe?) Forbort probably has similar value, maybe a little more than Reilly. Lindholm is obviously a non-starter, and if they wanted to talk JDB+Grz for Nelson, I think the Isles could add there - maybe do a pick swap (Isles 2nd for Boston's 3rd?) or throw in a little something extra that Boston might want from the Isles system (Raty/Holmstrom would be off the table, but an of our B/B- prospects could be added IMO)

Definitely something to chew on, and love seeing an out of the box trade idea that both fanbases can chew on for a bit.

Yeah its true it doesnt make sense to go after nelson rn bc of a career year. But nyi isnt going to sell low after a career year either.
My bad i thought he played more than that on the top line.

Thanks yea good points, I do try to do trades that might work for both teams that aren’t main stream
Maybe Smith Forbort a first
