You'll have to pay to get rid of Zucker's contract.

Not if hes a rental. This would be a good trade for any contender

With retention: yes. Without it: Not really

Detroit declines.

We'll do a deal for Pettersson and Kapanen though.

It's fair value for Dumo, so I assume your not willing to move Smith?

Most contenders don't have the cap space or will try to use it on a better player. No one's going to pay a 4th for an unretained Zucker.

I feel like the Sharks would be willing to move on from him for the right price, but the retention may kill the idea. What would the pens need to add?

The sharks cannot afford this retention. Also he was still top 15 in points for a dman this year and has improved everywhere else. We cannot retain on him and we won't pay to trade him as we don't even want to trade him. No retention a solid RD and a pick or two could pry him. But that's it. Sharks owner wants to compete and this negates that.

That's dumb (the trying to contend part). What about like 1.2 mil retention? I mean I'd be happy to add more to this. I'd even move 2022 1st if that's something that San Jose would be intrested in

DIdn't say contend, I said compete aka playoffs. Even with a new GM Hasso said there cannot be a fire sale of the core. BB is huge part of the core so I doubt it ever happens. He likely retires a shark. Just going on what the team said at end of year interviews. Vlasic and Burns, likely staying at the very least one more year.

No, that's not it.

There are other options than Dumolin available that fit our needs better and cheaper. Pettersson have qualities that are needed more and the options are fewer so he's the player that we want from PIT.

We overpaid for Zucker and his injury issues have sucked, but his production over the games he's played in Pittsburgh are pretty much his average with Minnesota. He doesn't have the value we gave up for him, but saying that he has negative value is a stretch. I'd say a 4th for Zucker would be underpaying for him, especially if he manages to stay healthy. And he never had serious injury issues in Minnesota, to my knowledge.

What he did in Minnesota is irrelevant. Most see him as a cap dump and that's what I see him as too. It's not just about the production, it's about that in correlation with the contract. The contract is the problem not Zucker himself, he isn't a bad player. But he isn't close to being worth $5.5M.

There is Zucker's N MTC to consider. And now way is worth close to 5,5m now. He likely stays a Penguin

Detroit passes, Trocjeck will get $6,500,000 x 6 years and Rust $6,000,000 x 6 years on the open market easily.

I think this is what the sharks would be looking for. A buy low option who could be a top 6 winger. 5.5M is a bit steep for the buy low plan

Rust wont be going anywhere. He'll stay in PIT and get around what Hyman got
