Bridge the RWs keep the band together

Created by: RWellington
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2022
Published: May 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know its crazy talk to bridge JP & Yam again but IF Edmonton could keep this group together (a few additions by subtraction) and add to the mix I would contemplate it.

Bridge Contract is based on Jordan Kyrou less a year & 50K

Couple Thoughts:

1. Tyson Barrie will fetch a late 1st round pick or multiple 2nd round picks
2. Holland Signs Kane to a 3yr deal, sees window with 97 & 29, term lines up with 29 contract expiration
3. Zach Kassian is dealt this summer for an actual return (some GM watching last night will think that is the player they are trading for and remember NHL GMs love to bail each other out stupidly enough)
4. Neither Smith or Keith retire, regardless of winning a cup or not. (Good chance they sign Vet goalie as Smith Insurance policy)

Having to resign JP, Bouchard, Yam & Skinner in a single offseason will be 2023 summer To-Do however, based on the moves made in the AGM, the Oilers will have near $25m.
Assuming they use $16m on the 4 key RFAs that leaves roughly $9m to spend on 5-6 NHL contracts. Of the 5 contracts 1 will be a backup's deal (Assuming Skinner takes over starters role), a 7th Dman (Broberg takes over 2LD & Nemo or Samo take over 3LD), a 4TH-LW & 4TH-RW.

"Ducks send pick to eat two years of Kassian and free up cap space for division rival to upgrade lineup" sounds like a pretty headline.

Holland is notorious for making dumb signings like that Kane deal.. Taking up space on your CAP strapped team and risking it on a guy who cant seem to play an entire year without getting in trouble is something Holland would do.. probably didnt give him enough money or length for a Holland deal though. Maybe 8 years at $8M

Clearly none of you read the description above

"Zach Kassian is dealt this summer for an actual return (some GM watching last night will think that is the player they are trading for and remember NHL GMs love to bail each other out stupidly enough)"

Ducks GM watches Troy Terry get face punched in ... regrets trading away Deslaurier at TDL
Ducks GM watches Kassian run over division rival LA Kings players thinks he could use that player

Hate the notion of a player getting dealt all you want but remember a GM in this league gave up a 3rd round pick for Travis Hamonic , without salary retention and had cleared waivers prior. Same thing could be said about Ristolinien, OEL and the list goes on. GMs make regrettable deals every year

The hilarious falacy/narrative that Troy Terry doesn't end up getting suckered in that situation if Kassian is on the ice is possibly the funniest thing I've ever read or heard.

It's kind of funny, because I typically see a ton of tweets or stories online about guys like Connor McDavid having to deal with a ton of cheap shots during games...Weird that Kassian doesn't just magically stop this...

As for whether I read the description or not, I can confirm that I 100% did not. I don't recall it being there when this was originally posted, and if it was, I probably would have stopped right around where you said "Tyson Barrie could fetch a late 1st".

Hahaha no one is suggesting Kassian = no Sucker, Kassian gives you a response. It makes teams rethink dirty plays and answer the bell when something has occured.

Connor plays through countless infractions not dirty plays (excluding the Gio trip) .... Whatever material your reading is likely biased or uninformed

You didn't read the description cause you just came to comment, but here is a List of RHD traded for a 1st round pick: Ristolainen, Trouba & Montour. I take Barrie over all 3 once salary is taken into account. The fact is Barrie is a solid PP QB on a team, friendly deal and is only 30yrs old I will be shocked if the player isn't dealt for a late 1st or multiple 2nds as I suggested.
