Letang wouldn't be captain, it would be his first season with the team. I'd give it to Gallagher

I'm assuming that the OP's idea is similar to Tavares in Toronto.

if Romanov was willing to sign a long term extension say 7 or 8 year at 4.5 would you do that over bridging him for 2 years 2.5 knowing that he could very well playing himself into a 5-6mil contract extension after those two years?

If you could bridge him for 3 years min then do it. I would not bridge for 2 years

ya fair, i'm just having flash backs to Subban and dont wanna see that repeated. Not that Romanov is going to be getting 9 mil on the next extension, but feel like theres a big advantage to paying a bit more in the next year or two to save on years 3-7 of the deal.

Tavares was named captain 16 months after signing with Toronto. Stone was named captain 2 years after signing with Vegas.

Naming captain a guy who never played a game with his new team would be the most stupid move ever. Excellent way to loose your locker room.

I would. Just by watching his progression in the past 2 years, you know he will become a great D man. Right now, you can see he's focusing on improving his defensive play and I can assure you that when that's done, he will work on his offensive play and be a beast. Signing him 8x4.5M would be a bargain long term

For Weber, I think you can expect a B prospect OR a 2nd/3rd round pick
All other trade and signing seem fair. Maybe the Chiarot one is a bit expensive

My mistake, he had an A in his first season.

Personal opinion-I feel like as fans, we absolutely overvalue the whole "Captain" thing. Worrying about who has a letter and who doesn't is a fools errand. You don't go from not being a leader to being a leader simply by adding a letter to the front of your jersey. What's your logic with losing the locker room? You think that Kris Letang wouldn't walk in and immediately have the respect of everyone on that team? If not, you've got a heck of a lot more issues than who has a letter and who doesn't.

Before you represent a team, you need to be a part of the team. Before you are a part of a team, you need to play for the team.

This is why no newly signed UFA becomes captain right away. Whatever you talent/leadership skills, you need to be accepted by your peers first.

Bleed for the logo first, then get the captain recognizance.

I'm not the one making the rule, I'm just telling how it works in the NHL.
