Question for Detroit Fans

Created by: JustanIdea

Description
First of all, I'm gonna state that while I like the Flames and Wings a lot I'm not fans of those teams so my values are probably gonna be a little bit of. To me this is a question of whether Detroit fans are willing to do this trade. I does help out both teams and gives them a veteran forward that is quite good when healthy and is a great leader.

Trades
CGY
  1. 2022 4th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Detroit gives up a pick from there stash that is not really a late round pick. He also could give more reason for Tyler Burtuzzi to stay if he ever wanted to go.

I'd love some feedback on this trade as I think it could be a very good trade and addresses a big need.
DET
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
Detroit gets a potential 2C that you could plug in right behind Larkin to fix the problem of missing a 2C. To me it fits Yzerman's style as it is low risk as if he doesn't work out then you can ship him off at the trade deadline and if he does work out then you can extend him longer term and he does fit the age gap decently. He is also a leader and my only worry would be his hip.

As for the problem about waving I think that he will end up waving for Detroit if it is on his M-NTC as he will get more of an opportunity there and Detroit is expected to be competitive for a playoff spot which would fit his win now style.

Yzerman isn't going to be helping any teams this offseason. He knows Flames need to sign their two biggest pieces and will ask for picks back, not send picks for Sean

Really, I don't think that that is the case as he needs a 2C and everybody knows it and this would be a extremely low risk/high reward trade for Detroit and for that reason I don't think that the Flames send picks over.

Detroit could get a great center or a potentially very valuable trade chip for nothing.

I would counter with Monahan and Calgary 2nd for Pius suter. But if not acceptable I'd accept this deal for like a 7th and take a chance on him rebounding in a different situation

Thanks for the feedback, I don't think Suter would not be able to come back in a deal as even with no scratches Calgary is 100k off of the Cap so I don't think that the cap would work.

But basically the trade that you proposed is:

2nd for Pius Suter
Monahan for Future Considerations.

I'd be willing to take a flier on Monahan, but I doubt any assets go back, as he's basically a cap dump at this point

Ya, I though about it and Calgary could probably convince Detroit to throw in like a seventh or sixth as they lack a lot of picks this year and Detroit has a lot of picks.

Pius Suter scores more than Monahan and is better defensively and also younger and cheaper, not to mention healthier.

In fairness, he does not have the track record that Monahan has had and we don't know if Monahan was healthy for any point during the season.

I don't think that they are fair comparables right now because of the fact that we don't know what Monahan was playing through.

Monahan has been declining for 3 years now. Someone might take a flyer on him if Flames retain 50% for a mid-late rd pick or if Flames pay for someone to take his whole cap hit

The actual return for Sean Monahan would be, Sean Monahan+Calgary's 2023 2ndd round pick and to Calgary Futures.
