Best way to make an offersheet work is a gross over-pay, Like CAR offering Kotkaniemi 6.1. I think a team will match an offersheet if the compensation isn't a 1st

Reports are the Canucks got their 3rd back to potentially make an offer sheet so I'm not sure why you are wrapped around the 2nd. A 3rd round offer sheet isn't very hard to match even for cap strapped teams so you are probably looking at a list of players needing a 1st and a 3rd. That should cut down this list quite a bit.

The 3rd they got back is for 2022, it wouldn’t be used in an offersheet because they would have already used the puck in the draft.

I focused on 2nd round picks because that’s the compensation $4 million.

Yeah I agree. I think I would be willing to go that high on liljegren (I’m very high on him) and puljujarvi. Worth doing if you can add a cornerstone piece

Liljegren and Roy should be good targets. Mangiapagne should also be one but may require the 1st and 3rd picks. These players are in cap-strapped teams and may be easy to pry away from them

If Vancouver offered Mangiapane 5.5-6, which is within the 1st and 3rd. I think Mangiapane would sign that and I think the Canucks would end up getting the player

If the Rangers match that offer sheet to Kakko, I think they need to be prepared to lose Laf, which would probably be the main prize if a team is sending an OS to Kakko. Same thing probably goes for the Toronto and Vegas candidates. They know they are in a risky area in terms of cap with prime RFA players due a new contract. I do think you would have the best chances with these players, since EDM is probably going to dump contracts to resign players, and CGY will do the same for Monahan and maybe Lucic as well. That is, assuming the player even signs the offer sheet, which isn’t a guarantee.

NHL draft is July 7th, free agency is July 1st. The rumour is the Canucks acquired the 3rd to make a 4-6 mil offer sheet to someone. These low level 2nd round type compensation picks are just too easy to match in my opinion. I don't think you piss off a team for a depth piece. My opinion is none of these are possible or realistic but decent stable of players.

NHL free agency is July 13th this year so the pick will already have been used on July 7th https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-announces-critical-dates-for-2021-22-season/c-326440404

I think all of these teams will have a hard time matching $4 million but I don’t disagree that it the aquiring team wants certainty they should offer more and pay the 1st and 3rd

i think vegas is so cap strapped they could potentially trade roy for a second straight up without needing a an OS.

Best way to make an offersheet work is a gross over-pay, Like CAR offering Kotkaniemi 6.1. I think a team will match an offersheet if the compensation isn't a 1st

it work against vegas since they currently cant sign any rfa unless dadanov or another 5m+ contract gets moved out with no player rentention

Problem with offer sheets it invites retaliation. Thats why they are rare in today's nhl

If Bergevin never offersheeted Aho, Carolina would have never retaliated with the KK offersheet

Then comes the fact some players dont want to sign an offersheet as it makes them look bad to their teammates should their team match.

                For sure.

Something that doesn't get talked about enough; the player actually has to sign it. It's not for everyone, Marner had an offer from CBJ that he obviously turned down.

Yep as we saw with Bergevin and Aho

                Offersheets invite retaliation

Look what happened 2 years later, Waddell walked in and stole KK from under Bergevin's nose

Since 2010 we have seen 5 offersheets and of those 5 2 were from 2 teams the same 2 teams in which one got revenge on the other for attempting to steal their player

If Vancouver does it I got a feeling its gonna come back to bite them as other GM's will be eyeing them

True, but then Marner signed a huge deal with TO anyways.

Looking at Toronto specifically, they will have a very hard time offering Sandin/liljegren over $2 million (and that’s after buying out mrazek, letting mikheyev walk for free, and having an elc/AHL heavy bottom 6).

If a team offers one of them $4 million, I think they’d have a hard time turning that down. Literally double the money

More a discussion on offersheets in general than whether or not one will happen this summer

I feel Vancouver is better off making a deal with Vegas for Hague or Roy

They know their cap situation and can threaten an offersheet making Vegas more willing to make a deal. As Vegas has no cap space next year

                Could probs get both for a 2nd + 3rd

I guess Kakko getting $4 mil is a lot for us to match. I think he’ll get around $2.5-3 mil here on a bridge. Comes down to what he wants and if he wants to be in Vancouver or stay in NY.

Call me crazy, but isn't there a 0% chance of offersheets, til end of flat cap at least? Dundon sent a message loud n clear from owners about self spiking rfa salaries. It's a lose lose situation for the owners/shareholders

                Still fun to discuss though
