*When…

And why would we be resigning Campbell especially for that much?

Freddy Anderson was a 918 S% over 4 years in TO, with a down year likely due to injury. He played 66 games on average. In 52 this year he received had a 922%. Anderson got 4.5M

Outside of Campbell, legit UFAs who could play at a contender level are Fleury and Holtby. I would say $4.5M would be low. He will get paid because there is scarcity and the bidding will be with a few teams. Goalies who leave Toronto generally see numbers get better.

Mikheyev scored at a 30 goal pace this year - which usually pulls in $5M+

Sandin hasn't been good enough for a serious bridge but should be able to get more than $1.5M He certainly has more upside than Liljgren.

For Toronto the Nylander trade makes no sense. Trade 25-30 goals for....stuff. Pulock isn't nothing but this is Hall for Larsson kind of trade. Taking on $6M on the back end must mean moving someone - Muzzin most likely.

Pulock isn't Pronger. That's what I would want for Nylander.

Pulock has been an top 20 defenseman over the last 3 seasons, Larsson was a #4 defenseman when he was traded. Isles wouldn’t trade Pulock for Nylander straight up, you don’t trade #1 defenseman in their prime for scoring wingers

Over 4 years Freddie proved he was a capable starting goalie. Campbell is 30 and he’s been a backup most of his career. The guy isn’t it.

I haven't seen much of Puloch so I won't pretend to be an expert. But none of the metrics suggest he is a franchise or near to it level. Nylander was a point per game playing on the 3rd line (but aided by playing on an elite PP). His game isn't perfect but I think you have it backwards. Nylander for Puloch plus. Top 20 in NHL - I will say yah because he had one vote for the Norris last year.

Puloch is probably closer to Muzzin + in value imo (higher end prospect, mid-level prospect + late 1st).

Campbell probably isn't as consistent as Freddie and can't take the same workload. But he Is clearly a NHL starter. His biggest issue is staying healthy. I assume this is why Mrazek was seen as a good option to carry 35 games as a 1B. (That worked out well). Keep in mind he has been head-to-head with two of the best goalies in the league (Price, Vasilevskiy) and done well enough to win a few games (last year's first round wasn't on Campbell, this year's TBL match up he's held his own).

If the Leafs won't offer something competitive, he'll get a better deal elsewhere. Leafs have limited FA options and no one in the system ready. Leafs aren't in a position to lose Campbell and his agent knows it.

So sign Holtby and trade for Reimer. Giving Jack more than 4 million a year for anything more than 2 years will be the latest dumb contract

Yah, I mean Mrazek got $3.8M to be a backup so I am sure he will be happy with $4M and no security. Holtby played about the same stat line as Campbell 6 years ago.
