Potentially the best deal of the offseason imo (yes and I’m saying it this early).

Barabanov is gonna get PAID in two years. The guy a key piece to SJ having ANY success next year.

Love this contract. Waiting for all the off season activities but this deal will be up there as one of the best value signings I believe once the next regular season is completed.

I see this going one or two ways. The first being he has a huge 164-game stint with the sharks and gets paid, or he produces at a crazy number, tells San Jose he won’t resign, and gets traded for a 1st plus to a team like Tampa or Colorado (he has a low cap hit).

He has excellent chemistry with Hertl and Timo. But he also plays defense, blocks shots and is extremely durable. This is an excellent value contract as I was expecting a Fabbri type deal at 4mx3y.

Solid contract for SJ, no doubt he could have got more on the open market.

This is a sensational deal for the Sharks. I was expecting Will to give Barabanov a Tanev contract, so the $2.5M/yr hit is a hell of a bargain considering how valuable he has turned out to be for Meier and Hertl's production. He also looks really happy to be given a NHL opportunity with the Sharks, and his enthusiasm plus solid defensive and Top 6 play makes this a win-win for both I suspect.

Sometimes players just dont work out. Neither Barabanov nor Marchment showed anything till 2 years after signing with us. Still have seen growth out of the guys who remained so who cares

Remember we got a 20+ goal scorer making 950k for another year and a giraffe who is gonna be making less but be able to produce the same as Barabanov so were fine lul

Agreed. For every player a team dumps that turns out to be something, there is 20 who turn out to be nothing. Also has to do with opportunities. Barabanov could have been sent to a team like the Av’s and been a 13-14th forward..

I know it's really just unlucky and if they stayed they may not have even grown into what they are now. It could have just been a different aproch or a different coach also who is the Giraffe that you speak of?

I'm happy for Barabanov. He took a chance coming to North American. Signing with the wing loaded Leafs, didn't allow him to show his capabilities. But the Leafs did the right them by trading to a team that could play him. Then he signed 1m show me contract, and now with this two year deal, he has gained some long term financial security. Good for Barabanov, the Sharks and even the Leafs.

Engvall. CapFriendly folks are funny. When Hagel was apparently up for trade by the Hawks, Leafs fans were so eager, for whatever reason to obtain him. So Tampa traded a first rounder and more for a guy with Tampa playing on the third line....was at pro rated at 26 points a season. Engvall this season playing that third or fourth line produced 36 points pro rated. Now I know a players value can't be judged by points, but so many Leaf fans "hate their own", and think bottom end players from other teams are the solution to all the Leaf woes.

To be fair to Hagel, he was very very good on Chicago and was scoring at a 30 goal pace and can play anywhere and is one of the hardest working players in the league but there really wasn't a need unless he would have magically fixed there second line.
