Willy has a good cap-hit, and is a huge part of this team. Why trade him?

End of a shift, down 5-0, Matthews doubled up out front of the net and zero support coming...yup, should absolutely bomb in there and get lit up.

It is that exactly mentality as to why teams do not win.

Players from every team make a mistake/play like that at least once. Nylander just happens to play for Toronto where the entire world scolds you if you sneeze. He wasn’t the reason they lost, s*** happens, you evaluate your mistakes and move on. He’s an integral part of the team and they shouldn’t trade him away, let alone for scraps.

Nylander is actually one of the best bargain contracts in the league given his age, production, consistency and durability. He's always been a convenient scapegoat for Leaf fans.

If you look at my ACGM I have been on the trade willy train for a while, not trading because of this. I watch nearly every Leafs game. This happens more than once per game with Willy. It would not have mattered if it was game 7 in OT or down 5-0 in game 4, Nylander will do that. Terrific player, will not take a hit to make a play. The spreads through the lineup.

Incorrect. Teams typically win because they score more goals than their opposition. This is typically impacted by talent, not by getting crushed during a meaningless play, where there was no play to be made.

I'm not saying Nylander doesn't have his flaws. But it seems each time things don't go the Leafs way he gets **** on by Leafs Nation. Even when there's plenty of other players not pulling the rope.

It's my understanding that the oddly large portion of Leafs fans who hate nice things, including their own team, have a dart board where they choose the scapegoat du jour after every loss.

Crosby would have his head on a spike in the locker room if he ever did that on the Pens.

Well we've seen Kadri, Freddy Andersen, Jake Gardiner, Nylander, Marner, Barrie... just to name a few be scapegoated each time the Leafs are eliminated. Can't forget about the refs and the NHL. Apparently only the Leafs opponents get power plays and there's been a 55 year league conspiracy preventing the Leafs from winning the Stanley Cup.

The unfortunate part is that there's a ton of great Leaf fans around, including on here, they're just drowned out by the excessively loud vocal minority that don't like nice things. In fairness, every fan base has this, especially on here, it just varies based on the size of that fan base.

Like, can you imagine trading 2 years of a point per game player for a late 1st, non-prospect and a year of a cap dump? If you did this from a Pittsburgh perspective, you'd get torn apart tears of joy

Yeah your first paragraph is totally true. Every fanbase has its delusional fans. Leafs are the most popular team so they just have more of them.

All I know is Willie Nylander can play for my team. I'll take his flaws because I can use his strengths.

100%! Imagine adding Nylander to play with the soon-to-be Calder winner!

Nylander/Z/Terry would be a fun line to watch.

(awesome face Kidding...Calder runner up)

Ha! I have Seider winning of course with Raymond as runner up. But Zegras is a heck of a young player. I keep trying to replicate his "Michigan" goal in my beer league but haven't succeeded yet. LOL

Hahaha, I'm more of a dump and change type player nowadays. The chances that I put in enough effort to make it inside the top of the circle, let alone behind the net are pretty slim. Some kid tried to do it in our league a month or two ago...I was standing out front of the net and as soon as he started I just stood there and smiled...poor guy looked like he was going to poop his pants when he thought it was going to work tears of joy

Yeah, I've got Mo-Z-Raymond (When Zegras finally got Milano/Terry on his line, they were yuuuuuge) in that order, but something tells me Bunting slips in and knocks one of those guys off, even though he's 83 years old. Pretty pumped to have him on the team, and would sell my first born to find a coach that wouldn't stuff Derek Grant and/or Mayhew on his wing every night. Imagine putting up 60+pts with a couple of borderline AHLers playing on your line.

I don't like how Bunting is still Calder eligible. But that's the rule I guess. Remember when 32 year old Makarov won the Calder? I couldn't get used to people calling him a rookie because he signed a hockey card for me at the Canada Cup (when he played for the Soviets) in Hamilton in September of '87. I think he was rookie of the year 5 years later?

Yeah Zegras is a stand alone player. He can create his own offense. Hopefully we see a line of Zegras-McTavish-Terry. That line would be electric. 🙂
