I imagine NJ would have been willing to part with their pick if they didnt win the lottery. Probably not anymore

This, Getting 2nd overall, There's no way Fitzgerald moves that pick unless he gets a game changer coming back.

What's the point of trading debrincat for 2OA? Hoping you draft someone that can be as good as debrincat in 5 years? Hawks haven't had the best record when it comes to developing their players lately

Trading Debrincat to embrace the tank would be a mistake, IMO. As a thought exercise, I went back to see how many teams that won the draft lottery used that player to win a cup as a part of their core group of guys. Would you like to know the last team to do so?

...

The lightning, with Stamkos. And it took luck with Kucherov falling, with Point falling, another pick with Vasilevsky.

Before that, it was Ovechkin, and then Crosby, and then the Hawks.

My point being, the fastest turnaround time in the cap era was (the Hawks) when there was a foundation established before winning the lottery. Kane and Toews came and won in 3 years. And then kept winning. The same thing with Crosby and the Pens. They had a foundation to build upon for when Malkin Crosby and Letang were drafted. After acquiring Ovi, without said foundation, it took the Caps 15 years. It took the Lightning 10 years. My point of all this, being, that trading away the foundation (Debrincat) that our future core will be added to will be futile and will not lead to long term success (see Oilers)

Debrincat is the only player in Chicago that I would trade any of our first round picks to get. Probably Kirby Dach too. And I don’t think I would give up number nine and 16, more like one or the other.

Exactly. No need to trade a 24 year old star player. He'll still be in his prime when they start winning (if they do it right) anyone younger than 26 should be part of the rebuild if they fit the team.

My thought process was 2 OA + AND the marginal increase in 2023 lottery odds. Like I said in the post I don't think he's traded, but I also didn't think Hagel would be and here we are

I know exactly who he is, great hockey player 75 or so points this year. 1yr left on his contract RFA with Arb rights.

What's the probability the 9th pick becomes that? Pretty low

Sure, but am I guaranteed to have him in a couple years. And it sure helps having Kane dishing you the puck, not that it's all that. He's a good hockey player, and I would like him on my team, but there are ? marks there to give up the 9th pick

So awful for Detroit. Veleno is the only top 6-9 C in the farm system while being loaded with LD and Beaudin is a bust anyway

Yes he is.
DeBrincat just may be worth all three of Buffalo's first round picks.
It is unlikely the Hawks will find another 40 goal/season RW among those three picks.
On the other hand Buffalo would not make that trade as Quinn is looking like he may do as well as DeBrincat in a couple of years.
