Interesting proposal. Probably need to do a bit more to get that Laine trade done. They don't need to trade a RFA. Laine would get them 1 or 2 firsts, second and third if signed away. A top 6/ top 4 and the second overall might do it. Cooley might fit better though than Laine

Even if Laine didn't want to return, which he has said multiple times that he does, I don't think this gets it done. Jarmo would want a high end RD prospect or future #1C in return.

I think he can become a ghost at 5-on-5 in tight checking games. I think he’s about to get paid, and I want the players paid at the top of the market to be all situation players.

What makes you think we wouldn't be able to re-sign Laine?

-He's said on multiple occasions that he loves being in Columbus

-We have a plethora of cap space, so we can fit his demands comfortably.

As cool as it would be to have the 2nd overall pick, i feel like this scenario isn't gonna be a thing.

If Laine is willing to accept that contract value, he'll be a Blue Jacket. Both sides are very enthusiastic about making a long-term deal happen.
