The Ideal Canucks Offseason

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2022
Published: May 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Priority # 1 = Shed salary
- Trade Poolman - Winterpeg can take him back
- Trade Dickenson - Decent fit and contract for Yotes
- Trade Ferland - Helps Vegas with their cap, gets canucks out of lti and bonus overages

Priority #2 = Create space for Horvat, Miller and Hoglander next season.

Taking Dadonov from Vegas to replenish our 2nd round pick is genius. Gives us another top 9 fwd for next season while holding cap space for key players. With dadonov and the buyouts/ bonuses off the books theyll have room to resign Horvat and Miller.

Priority #3 = A right hand defensemen. Josh Manson or PK Subban would be decent fits for the right price. Would be an upgrade for Hughes from Schenn and help with zone exits.

Couple more things id like:
- Sutter making a comeback from Long Covid
- Canucks sign Kuzmenko from the KHL
- Bruce there it is
- Rathbone push for a spot in the lineup
- Martin get at least 22 Games at over .500
- Lots of puck moving D improve zone exits

Poolman's contract isn't bad when he's healthy

That Dallas pick is a 3rd, not a 4th. Arizona will send out mid round picks for youth but a Dickerson type they could just sign in free agency

Why would the Jets trade a pick (even though it's a low one) to bring Poolman if they could have just signed him before?

I'll tell you why, he just isn't good and asked for too much money. Sorry but to pay this guy 2.5M was just soooo dumb. That guy is a 7th depth dman at most. I'm honestly really happy for the Canucks to get rid off Benning. Believe it or not, Knuckles, VAN is my 2nd favorite team in the NHL

We don't know if he's worth 2.5M or not because he's barely played this season. Sure, for most of his pro career thus far he was nothing more than a 7th dman, but maybe he's better than that now. We just don't know

Too bad the Canucks signed Poolman to such a bad contract. That will be difficult to move.
