Description
-- I don't know the Devils. This is more about the idea of maximizing a return on the 2nd overall. --
IF the GM is willing to move their first round, second overall pick, why not double up the return? See if there is a deal to be made with Arizona, Seattle, or Philly to move down to the 3, 4, or 5 slot. Maybe a deal for Crouse/Chychrun, Dunn, or Konecny. THEN flip that 3, 4, or 5 to Montreal for the Flames 1st rounder and a guy like Anderson. Two serious pieces that help right now and are not too old for one draft pick. Are Vince Dunn and Josh Anderson worth the 2nd overall? And maybe there is enough left over for Fiala? Getting greedy now...

If you were offering that for the Devils 1st I am sure Montreal would take that instantly as we would select Wright and Nemek with the top 2 picks but not for 4th since Nemec would be gone by then.

Edit*** Would you consider Anderson + Harris + Calgary's 1st for NJ's 1st?

Getting Nemec and Wright would mean we can potentially cut 1-2 years off of our rebuild/retool/whatever you want to call it. That would be worth it.

I would make it a package of picks before adding in Harris though, Norlinder might be easier for the habs to pull the trigger but even then teams tend to favor players they know and have had time to develop versus an unknown prospect who may be solid. Its just not the type of deal you see very much off in the nhl.

no but Harris has NHL experience and an equal or slightly higher ceiling to Norlinder which makes him more attractive to NJ and we have too many good LD prospects anyway.

I would probably take that deal. The habs would be getting one of Cooley Slaf Jiricek or Nemec out of it and would have the cap space back to potentially add more asset.

Dunn $4m 3LD
Anderson $5.5m middle-six winger
Norlinder AHL dman

Devils aren’t moving #2 for that

Would have to include Caufield at the very least.

we do have several good LD prospect but they wont all pan out. I just dont think its worth the price to move up you can still land a decent prospect at the end of the first, and to your point we have severl solid d prospect already yes most are LD but Norlinder and probably harris too can play the right side if need be, i get the premise of trying to land the next tier prospect that you would get in the 4th i just dont know if the price is worth it.

Start with #2
Trade #2 for Dunn/#4
Trade #4 for Anderson/Norlinder/#29

So #2 becomes Dunn/Anderson/Norlinder/#29

brutal.
