Can’t imagine Talbot would be at the top of Buffalo’s list of “1a” quality goalies to go after,
but maybe if we strike out with other options

Rather have one of Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek or Slaf over Fiala, even if Devils recoup a late 1st.
You guys have fun trying to navigate the cap this off season.

The dumba trade would have to be with an extension and I believe he has a NTC I wouldn’t be surprised if Ottawa is on there tbh.

Usually I'd agree, but usually GM's that have top 5 picks don't publicly announce they'd be willing to trade them, either.

GMs usually say stuff like that. It's not that crazy for a GM to say they're open to trading the pick to improve their team. That was also before the lottery too.

Top 5 pick hasn't been traded for a player in the salary cap era. Last time was 2002. It just doesn't happen.

No, GM's don't usually say stuff like "my top 5 pick is available", that was the point.

If I were the Sabre GM, I would do that Talbot trade.

They do lol. I guess you forgot the whole Bergevin open to trading the number 3 pick a few years ago when the ROR rumors popped up. https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/nhl/news/marc-bergevin-says-hes-open-to-trading-montreals-no-3-nhl-draft-pick-canadiens-2018/10rmenpjky0o51sfpmwcu2nai9

GMs do say things like that quite often in press conferences. Don't put too much stock on what a GM says publicly. I know our GMs have said it a lot over the years that they'd be open to trading our high pick for an impact player.

Guess what. It never happens. Hasn't happened in the salary cap era.

Just seems like a pipe dream for Wild fans that was never realistic.

Your evidence that GM's usually do say their top 5 pick is available is... one GM, one time, saying his pick was available?

If GM's usually said stuff like that, you would be able to provide more than two examples. There are 5 top 5 picks every year. That means going back to 2002 (when you said the last time one of those picks was moved), there would be literally 100 opportunities for it to happen.

You have 2.

Do you see why I say GM's don't usually say they're open to trading the pick?

Man I don't feel like digging up articles for every year. Go look for yourself.

You can find stuff about the Devils willing to trade their 1st last year for a young defenceman too. I'm not gonna do all your work for you.

top 5 pick hasn't been traded for a player in the salary cap era. Don't know why you keep ignoring that.

You're not doing the work for me, you're doing the work for you. Because you're the one that said GM's usually do publicly make their top 5 picks available.

If you can't find the articles, it's okay to just acknowledge that most GM's don't make their top 5 picks available. it's already kind of a really weird hill to die, because everyone reading this right now already knows most GM's don't trade top 5 picks.

I gave you like 3 examples man. I'm not gonna waste hours digging up articles. Yes they do. If you want to look go find it yourself. Don't be lazy.

Also this was pre-lottery when he said it so wasn't even a confirmed top 5 pick so you're wrong there.
