Yes it is. That defense is trash.

When you have to rely top4 minutes of Luke Schenn and Travis Dermott your team has a problem worth fixing. Demko alone can only do so much.

Offensively speaking the team is also worse. You don't have Miller to score those 90 points. Zucker and Chytil add 20 points each.

This is a bottom-5 team.

And btw I don't think anyone accepts these proposals. DAL has better use for that money, rentals don't gather out such packages and no one wants OEL.

“Rentals don’t get her such packages” I mean Seth Jones literally got a bigger haul last off season. Seth Jones plus pick 32 plus a 6th for pick #12, pick 44, Adam boqvist, and then ANOTHER 1st which is going to be 6th overall this year.

Perfectly realistic to assume Miller could pull this package

Seth Jones was perceived as top10 D-man in the league in CBJ. Miller's barely a top20 center with one huge outlier of a year.

And the common opinion pretty much is that the Jones trade is one of the worst moves in last 5 years (although partly because of that contract).

The package proposed for Miller is a 3LW + 3 fringe NHL players + a 2023 1st (probably in the 15-30 range). Not exactly what I'd call a "haul"

VAN would be better going after a return that nets them a fewer number of weak pieces and trading for something more proven or with a higher potential ceiling. Otherwise just resign Miller. In 3 seasons in VAN he is averaging over 1.07 ppg.

The defense isn't trash, you underestimate how good Luke Schenn is, and how much potential guys like Rathbone and Lundkvist have. Obviously with Dermott on the 2nd pair the team can't have Stanley cup aspirations, but clearly I'm not trying to be all that ambitious here

Pettersson, Hughes, and Podkolzin will all take steps next season (at least they should), and guys like Boeser, Hoglander, and Dickinson should bounce back. This team won't underachieve the way they did this last season, and it's not like I'm running things back here

When it comes to Chytil and Zucker, there are still good players in them, just haven't been optimal fits with their current teams

Bottom line is, as long as this roster has Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko, they will NEVER be bad enough to be bottom five

You are so so wrong on so many levels

Kravtsov and Chytil are more reclamation projects, and I wouldn't call Chytil a fringe NHLer. Jones and Lundkvist are both prospects

Sorry for the confusion...

The 3LW = Chytil (we already have Pearson, Dickinson, Hoglander that can play 3LW)

The 3 fringe NHLers are:
Lundkvist - played 25 NHL games this season
Kravtsov - played 20 NHL games last season, none this season
Jones - played 22 games over last 2 seasons

They are not really prospects anymore, they are tweeners struggling to make an NHL roster that haven't performed very well at the NHL level.

VAN already has Rathbone, who is a smaller sized Dman like Lundkvist and Jones, and he is out-performing both in the AHL.

I guess my point is that I would want a serious piece coming back in a trade for Miller (like a high pick or a top level prospect or player) not a 5 low level guys and a late pick.

I think the 1st rounder qualifies as a significant piece, plus it's in 2023 which is reported to be a deep draft. You can't call Lundkvist a fringe NHLer when he still has 2 more years on his ELC. With Chytil, he isn't even in his prime, and he's had some decent spurts of productivity at the NHL level. Plenty of NHL scoring wingers are streaky
