Why would Arizona take on Weber's contract basically for free?

To reach the cap floor. The contract is insured so they get $7 million of cap hit without spending pretty much and actual dollars

Right, I get the point of Arizona acquiring LTIR players to reach the cap floor but that doesn't mean they will take on a contract like that for free. Montreal will have to give up assets as well. If they don't, Arizona will just look to other teams with LTIR players who will.

No, Montreal does not have to do that

110% they will, it doesn't take much time to do a little research, just look at previous LTIR trades.

Did Chicago have to pay to unload Brent Seabrook? Doesn't look like it. If anything, Tampa obviously paid a 2nd to unload Tyler Johnson. The Jet's didn't pay anything to unload Bryan Little's contract either

Those are both trades where both teams are dumping assets. Winnipeg gave up an "A" prospect in Nathan Smith along with Little and only got a 4th back. If Smith was traded on his own he's getting and early 2nd/late 1st. Seabrook again, his contract is bigger but TJ's is arguably worse because you can't put it all on the LTIR.

And don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from with the trade I just feel like for FOUR years at that cap hit they will have to pay more than proposed.

Nathan Smith is an A prospect? I'd never even heard of him before he got traded

Maybe A is generous lmao, he was the top scorer in the NCAA though and was selected and played for Team USA at the Olympics...that's pretty damn good if you ask me. 4pts in 10 games for the Yotes as well.
