Kaapo To The Ducks

Created by: edeangel84
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2022
Published: May 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Rags can’t afford to match 4 million a year.

* Yes I am a Pens fan who hates them but this actually could work out for the Ducks, a 2nd rounder is easy compensation to pay for a young player like Kaapo.

Just like his career! (Whomp, whomp, whomppppp...)

Kidding, he's absolutely poised for a breakout year, and I'd love to add a guy like him onto my team. Just looking at his hockey-ref page, why the F*ck doesn't he shoot the puck more?

Re: the rest of the trade...
-Sam Carrick just re-signed, the value is probably fine but he's not getting moved.
-No friggin' thanks on Zaitsev. A late 2nd to eat $9 mil (Or even $7 if it's after his bonus is paid out) simply doesn't do it for me. Consider that Vegas was willing to give up a 2nd for Anaheim to basically just eat 50% of Dadonov (Moore was going the other way). Yes, Anaheim should be looking to add assets by eating a couple of short term dumps, but this one would be a bogey.
-Consider that you're making the Habs give up a 2nd to eat one year of a cheaper player in Byron.

Rangers match…any team that wants him that bad- go ahead and make Drury an offer- 2nd as comp not near to cutting it.

Rangers would have to make a move (which they’d rather not do)….but no doubt they’d match and thank for the term

Habs don’t need a second to dump Byron. He’s a UFA after one year they can just eat the contract if they don’t find a partner for him

At 4 million you’d have a tough time matching. Your cap situation is pretty bad

Do you not think that if this was the case and they did offer sheet him, that there would be no consequences... just remember that zegras is also coming up for a new contract and payback is a mother....

I think ANA is one of the few teams that doesn't have a worry in the world about cap space to sign their young guys. Only 3 guys making more than $5M, the rest are well below $4M.

doesn't mean that they wont be forced into a giving out a contract that they don't want to give out in terms of years and AAV because they have to match an offer sheet. He can be offer sheeted a deal that takes him straight to UFA status which I'm guessing that they would rather no have happen. Offer sheets don't happen very often because of this exact reason that teams dont want to then deal with the aftermath that comes after an offer sheet

Personally saying I’d match it and say thanks for getting him signed for four years. Deal with implications afterwards. He and Laf have both improved and shown that all they need is some time and patience. If not guess who’s getting offersheeted next - Zegras. Especially considering Dolan being the owner would probably order Drury to do it.

pft, you'd be doing the Rangers a favor locking him up for 4 years. At this rate it doesn't look like either Copp or Strome are going to be re-signed.

They’ll have plenty of room to resign him.

Exactly and these Rangers fans are beyond delusional for thinking they could sign Zegras

You can be 10% over in the summer. Just need to be compliant by the regular season. So technically throwing $10-12 mil and making it all signing bonuses is possible.
