1.
NJD
  1. Tkachuk, Matthew
Additional Details:
Calgary ether comes down to loosing John hockey or moving Tkachuk. Sending Calgary the #2 overall pick to select a similar type player along with giving them cap flexibility to resign Johnny makes all the sense in the world if they were to go this route. For jersey Tkachuk is everything the devils need in a top 6 forward. High offensive upside to play with Jack, 24 years old so he can grow with the core we already have in place and more importantly he would be able to protect jacks on the ice.

To acquire Tkachuk and Fiala without moving any of Holtz, Smith, Mercer, Shakdaddy, Hughes, etc. (Basically any of your top 5-6 prospects) seems like a pretty big stretch. Yes, you're moving 2OA, but you're also getting a 100 pt player (and another PPG player in Fiala) back which, in all likelihood, is never matched by whoever you take at 2.

Tkachuk would be great but would honestly prefer the Devils drafting Cooley (or Wright) at #2 over him.

Pick 37, two solid middle six pieces and a 3rd doesn't look too unreasonable Fiala in terms of value and the absence of leverage on part of Minnesota.
However, I suspect Wild'd want less cap coming back in a Fiala trade.
Could replace Johnsson with someone like Stillman for example.
Also, there's a good chance another team (ANA, OTT etc) beats that offer for Fiala, in which case I'd be more than happy for the Devils to try for one of Nichushkin, Burakovsky or Copp in FA.

I think Devils should steer far clear of Gibson.
He looks past it to me, I really think his best days are behind him and Blackwood might be the better goalie between the two in a few years.
Rather trade for one of the Caps goalies, Lehner or Driedger. Or try for one of Campbell, Husso or Kuemper in FA.

I think Tatar could comfortably be moved.
He's certainly expendable from a Devils point of view.

All in all, I don't think it makes sense for Devils to go balls to the wall and burn a bunch of high value future assets for short term gain just yet.
I think Devils can afford at least one more year of being patient.
