I think the Cernak move is a year too early. Since they don't /need/ to move him I figure they'll keep him and run it back unless it's a monster offer.

How many times do Tampa fans have to tell us that Cernak isn’t gonna be moved before we stop this nonsense?

It’s just as annoying as MTL fans shipping us Petry for a 1st +
Or teams sending us their crappy goalies that we’d want no part of

Let’s not add on to the nonsense anymore

Nicholas Roy is not going to sign a deal for $3.5 million average if you give him a $4 million offer sheet. You have to pay him at least $4 million as a qualifying offer to retain his RFA rights. Maybe he signs a multi year deal at $4.5 million, but as a third line center at best why would you?

Don't think the Cernak deal happens, would love it but I would put him with Power and leave Samuelsson with Dahlin move Joker to 3RD. Hopefully a decent RD falls to us at the draft and go sign Or trade for a LD who are much easier to find.

Dahlin already has his D partner, and it isn't someone who viciously elbowed him

I’ve been seeing Pens fans make Dumoulin available for roughly a 3rd
Imo, he’d be perfect to lock down LD3 and be insurance in case Samuelsson has any struggles on the top pair

Fitz or Bryson could battle it out for his partner
Or even bring back Pysyk as well, he was decent for us
If Winnipeg is shaking things up, Demelo is a RH shot who could be a decent partner for Dumoulin as well
And idk that he’d cost a whole lot….
Maybe Portillo since the rumors about moving Hellebuyck seem to persist

Also, i agree- there’s no chance Cernak happens

Not true. The lure of the $4 million gets him away from Vegas, with the hand shake agreement that a longer term deal with a lower cap will be signed later.

You are delusional if you think that. No player is making a handshake deal for them to sign for less money than they can. If you make a $4 million offer sheet to him this off-season to retain his RFA rights the next time he is a free agent you need to match his previous contract at the minimum. From this very website for your convenience:

The qualifying offer is calculated from the players base salary (NHL salary minus signing bonus), and at minimum must meet the seasons minimum salary requirements:
110% of the base salary if the base salary is less than or equal to $660,000
105% of the base salary if the base salary is greater than $660,000 or less than $1,000,000. However, this qualifying offer cannot exceed $1,000,000.
100% of the base salary if the base salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000.
So you would have to have a signing bonus added into that $4 million figure for your qualifying offer on a $4 million offer sheet to be less than $4 million.

Let me correct you again. For a qualifying offer you must match as you stated above. I'm not saying wait until he is a RFA to offer him the extension.
For example- Carolina got Kotkaniemi to sign offer sheet at $6.1 million for one year. Then during the year they extended him for 8 years at a cap hit of $4.8 million and his first years salary is only $4 million.

I would say it’s pretty rare for player to willingly leave money on the table. Carolina is paying almost $5 million a year to a guy who scored 30 points this year. And that’s only because he has potential to be a top 6 forward center. Nick Roy probably tops out as a checking third line center. If he ever has a 60 point season I might be surprised. Eventually the scales will tip and checking players like him won’t be seeing contracts paying them three and $4 million per season for 40 to 50 points seasons. I understand everybody deserves their money and will ask for it. I’m just wondering where the line gets drawn.
