Tampa declines. The 1st is good, but it will take a better prospect/roster player imo. Other offers will very likely top this.

I think they consider it if it's Jiricek. Walman would be a pretty solid 3LD behind Hedman and McDonagh. Maybe another piece could be involved.

Almost no chance Jiricek is there at 8 though. If Tampa decided to listen to offers, I think it would take 1st+Wallinderas the main base maybe to give Detroit a chance against other teams like L.A. for example, who would definitely be interested. Wallinder would give the team a quality LD prospect that could play soon and probably be of better help down the line as both Hedman and McD get older.

I don't even know much about Wallinder. If you want a ready now LD, Johansson might be the guy.

This is a bad deal for Detroit.

The 1st is likely to give us a good centre which we badly need and while Sergachev is good the qualifying offer needed to resign him after next season is absolutely massive.

We have the talent we need on LD and when this team is ready to compete they will be ready to play. What's needed is stop-gap help on LD for the next two seasons and there's no point in paying massive assets for a defender when the rest of the team isn't ready yet.

I agree Jiricek won't be there at 8.

Based on what Tampa is going to want and what Detroit is willing to sell, I see almost zero chance that a Sergachev to Detroit trade happens. I just can't see the two sides ever getting close enough on value.

Yes. Bad deal.

The timing is horrendous for Detroit. We don't have the team to make use of his sevices and his contract is for 7.2 millions next year and he needs to be qualified at that cost. We already have the talent we need on LD with Edvinsson, Johansson, and Wallinder at least one of which is certain to be even better than Sergachev and a lot cheaper too.

We need centres a lot more than we need LD and there's where the assets should be used, not on Sergachev.

None of those dudes you named are guaranteed to be top pair DMen, let alone NHL players. Sergachev is a 24 year old, COST-CONTROLLED ELITE LHD. This is an absurd attempt at a Serg trade.

Wallinder, Zadina, 1st. Thats what a Serg trade looks like (and I'd still do it).

You could not be farther off with your analysis. This team needs everything.

In what way is Sergachev cost controlled when you have to offer him north of 7.2 million to even retain his rights????????????????????

If this team needs everything then why is it a good thing to give away three assets to get one??????????????????????

He's an RFA - He's under team control for AT LEAST the next 7 years, if you so choose. He's easily worth $7.2M.

Well, because the #8 pick is no guarantee to be a stud NHL player (see Ras, see Zadina, see x, see y, see z), we still have a 2023 #1 which is a MUCH better draft for Cs, and Wallinder is quite replaceable with our LHD pipeline. This is how asset management works. That trade I put down is still prob not enough for Serg, quite honestly, but I wouldn't be happy if Yzerman offered more than that.

Serg is not going to be had for a #8 pick in a weak draft and a taxi squad Dman lol.

Serg had a qualifying offer of 5.76, and that's the max Tampa, or any team, has to qualify him at as his QO is limited to 120% of his current aav of 4.8.

Yeah, I could see Tampa asking for 1st+at least one of Johannson or Wallinder as the main part of it(not sure who between them Tampa would prefer, maybe Johansson if they think he'll be ready sooner, but likely the player they think will fit better regardless of timeline).

He also has a salary of 7.2 million and isn't very likely to accept something less than that. Claiming that he's cost controlled is simply not true. Sergachev is a good defender but that doesn't mean that Detroit should pay top picks and top prospects for him, especially not when we have much bigger needs elsewhere and an absolute avalanche of prospects on LD coming in the next 1-2 years.

Detroit have eight (8!) prospects that are 23 years or younger on LD in Juolevi, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Viro, Sebrango, Buium, and McIsaac. At least four of those prospects have potential to become just as good if not better than Sergachev.

They have "potential" while Serg is the actual real deal already. Not saying Detroit should necessarily trade for him(if he's even made available, but 8OA in a pretty weak draft year+ 1 good prospect is hardly some overpay for Serg). Even if Brisebois does listen to offers, it's going to take something very tempting to make him pull the rrigger. His salary may be 7 2 this year but he's not getting an aav caphit of 7.2 on his next deal, at least not in Tampa.

Ignoring the trade, Nichushkin is way overpaid. Zadina is overpaid too. I didn't see anything from Juolevi that warrants a resigning. I'm betting he goes back to Europe or maybe if he gets lucky he might get one more chance somewhere else, but I don't see him back in Detroit. Kadri, I honestly like and think he would be a good fit on detroit. I know a lot of people say he is too old or that his numbers are inflated on the avs, but I still think he is a solid 2C who can put up at least 60 points and adds some grittiness to the team. The money and term are pretty good here but I can see he might try to go for more given his season this year.

Nichushkin is not overpaid. It really seems like no one on this board realizes his value.
