Gritsyuk Hughes and Slavkovsky in 23 24

Created by: Opie
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: May 13, 2022
Published: May 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Simple projection. Just for illustration of what might be possible in 2 years. No real serious thought put into contracts, just soft guesses. This assumes no incoming assets via trade, Zacha + Graves is elsewhere & the fringe guys (eg Clarke, Foote, Thompson dont break through). Holtz is better on left, but not sure how that all shakes out with line combos. Not sold on Boqvist as a long term solution at 3C yet, but Fitzgerald should know either way by end of 22 23 season. If he fails, I guess they slide Mercer in there and find or promote another wing ( Stillman's sandpaper may work nicely here at 3RW, if he is ready ... eg Gritsyuk-Mercer-Stillman)

Many interesting possibilities with this team. Too bad they still don't have a Keeper.

LMAO, hope so, but there is a looooong way to go just to sniff the playoffs. Have gear? They may need you in net.

A tackling dummy might have a higher save percentage. I'm thinking they just sign the biggest defensive tackle they can find and tell him to lay in the crease.

    Always enjoy these AGMs,.
Makes me hopeful that this past decade of mediocrity soon will turn into perennial cup contention.
I mean, with only one UFA signed, there are so many interesting guys not even making any given 20 man roster.
Foote, Clarke, Moynihan, Schmid, Salminen, Edwards (I could go on...) didn't even get a mention in here.

Between Blackwood, Daws and Schmid chances are one of them develop into a true starter by October 2023.

So many solid mid tier prospects (too many to mention), just from a probability perspective, you have to figure 2-3 of the group break through.
I like Salminen as a possible 3C, but maybe in 4 years, not two. Fear his skating will leave him short to make NHL, like Foote, but I remain hopeful. I wouldn't sleep on McCarthy either, but maybe he won't sign.

    Mediocrity? That's putting it lightly

    adjective
of only moderate quality; not very good.

Only the Coyotes and Sabres had had less points than the Devils since 2012-13

Devils fans deserve good things to happen because with the Sens having done the same kind of crap for the last 5 seasons, it is extremely "uninteresting"

It's really just a goalie and powerplay to sniff playoffs, with our current team.

Well, I hope you're right, but until they prove it, they are still far away. Chronic injuries and unfulfilled expectations could as easily be the norm, not the exception.
