Description
A high 1st seem to be the price for Fiala lately. If MIN can't get it, would they consider Dvorak and Calgary's 2022 1st?
I think if they can't get a top 20 pick for Fiala, a late first and Dvorak might be good for both teams.
I know MIN is in cap hell for the next 3 years, but i think they could still fit Dvorak.
He could play top 6 minutes for them for 3 years at a decent price.
They could sign him after if they still need him or trade him at 2025 TDL and get another pick back.
I know MTL fans will hate me for improving the team by adding Fiala, but he's the winger Suzuki and Caufield need.
With that defense, MTL is still getting a top 10 lottery pick in 2023 anyway.
I also added Petry for Dumba, as Minnesota is close to Detroit. But this is not necessary, only if both teams want to.
Also, trading Petry within 1000 miles from Detroit would make TampaBayLightning22 happy :)

Late 1st and a 3C is not what we need in exchange for Fiala. We’re overloaded with filler players as is, this just punts us further into mediocrity.

I generally like to propose a counter offer instead of just saying no, but I’m not familiar enough with MTLs prospects to suggest anything of intelligence.

I think he's still a 2C. He performed well under St-Louis.

If you can't get a top 20 pick or equivalent prospect, what would you want for Fiala?

Just my thoughts, but, the Wild are in a situation where they (likely) either need to get rid of Fiala, because they can't afford him, or Dumba, because they can't afford him. There are other ways to do it, but the direction that these ACGM's go is basically that.

Dropping 1 year of Dumba @$6 mil to take on Petry for 3 years at $6.5 doesn't do that. Trading Fiala at around $7 for Dvorak @$4.45 would *help*, but it also isn't a super solution. Minny will be running out JEE, and have had a breakout season for Hartman up the middle as well, so the need isn't really there for Dvorak.

Habs don't have room to add a winger like Fiala next season... they need to get rid of wingers not add more. Having an experienced C like Dvorak is necessary for these young guys right now.

I know you think MTL needs to trade a C to make room but this is untrue, Evans and Poehling can both move to the wing. Also Wright actually has to make the team first it wouldn't be out of the question to give him another year of Junior considering he missed an entire season of development there.

I'd definitely do the Fiala trade if Minnesota agrees.

Not sure about the Dumba one, though. I'd definitely prefer trading Petry for futures and if it's not possible, I'd keep the better defender in Petry.

IMO, he’s not a 2C on any playoff caliber team. Which in essence means he’s either overpromoted or a 3C.

Habs don't need to trade a center, but one of Minnesota need is a top 6 center. If MTL wants Fiala, they might have to give Dvorak.

In the last 10 years, every 1st overall pick made the NHL right away except Power.

If you look at my team, i managed to fit everyone under next year's 82.5M cap.

Yea, i was just wondering if they can't get a top 20 pick or equivalent prospect, would they conside a late 1st and Dvorak? I think getting Dvorak and 28 instead of a top 20 isn't that bad.

If Fiala would sign 8x7 mil he'd be signed already.

Right now Calgary's pick is 28 and they are leading their series 3-2. They look to be heading for a mid to late 20's pick.

The Sabres at 16 could be the place to look. They're loaded at LHD and pick 16...

When he was traded last year, many teams considered him a 2C. He just had a bad first half of season, but got better on the second half.

My thought was if they can't get a top 20 pick or equivalent prospect for Fiala, maybe they consider Dvorak and let's say 28th overall?

Nobody considered him a 2C except Montreal. He has never been a top 6 center. He's a good 3C.

Wild might be interested in this, but it would sure be disappointing from a fan perspective.

You have to give up more than that for an elite top line goal-scorer.

Every teams offered let's say a 2nd (3C value), but MTL decided to offer a 1st and 2nd out of nowhere, considering him a 2C?

Their asking price is a top 20 pick or equivalent prospect. IF they can't get it, would they consider Dvorak and 28?

What are you asking here? I don't know what other teams offered, but it was clear when Montreal traded for him that he wasn't a top 6 center.

You seem to think only MTL thought he was a 2C, but i'm pretty sure he's considered a 2C amongst the league.

Yes and I'm saying that I don't know why people would consider him a 2C when he has never shown the ability to be one. I've watched him for years, he's a 3C.

Yeah and Hughes + Lafreniere both struggled mightily as rookies, they were both more valuable prospects than Wright and they didnt miss an entire year of development. I'm not saying Wright won't make it but making a trade like this prematurely assuming he is ready puts unfair expectations on him.

You made it under $82.5M with $35k to spair lol. If you wanted to call up Guhle over Wideman you don't even have the space! You also underpaid Pitlick and failed to lock up Romanov to a long term contract at a reasonable cap hit and you're only running a 22 man roster. For what? So we can trade Dvorak and a 1st round pick for Fiala? Keep the 1st round pick (and the cap space). Trade Dvorak when the time is right, you claim he performed better under St. Louis, well what would an entire season under St. Louis do for his value? MTL is entering a transition year. They need bring there players value back and sell off what they can. Have another good draft, once they get cap space they can make some big moves to add to their young core.

I suppose if this is truly the best return the market provides, then they’d probably consider this.

I would just be very disappointed if Guerin can’t get anything better.

Best 1st they can get + best prospect they can get + maybe a roster player depending on how bad the team wants Fiala and the quality of the 1st and prospect. If I'm being honest, Montreal doesn't have any prospects I would want (other than the ones that obviously aren't available).

And then wait how many years until another winger of that caliber is available? He's the perfect fit for Suzuki and Caufield, might not get a chance like that for another few years.

I don't think Romanov would sign for less than 5M on a long term contract, and i'm not ready to give him that money yet.

Habs could move one of Hoffman, Byron or Armia, attached to Weber's contract sent to AZ. Or just pay a mid rounder to dump one of those contract.

I think with that defense, they still get a top 10 pick next year.

Jason Zucker returned 1st+Addison+Galchenyuk. Kevin Fiala is twice the player Zucker was. Kevin Fiala will return more than 1st+Addison+Galchenyuk if we want him to.

And to be crystal clear, you're not really in a position to tell us what he will or won't get, because you seem to think a late, late 1st and a 3C can return a 25 year old point per game first line player. The difference in caliber of player from Dvorak to Fiala is worth more than a 28th overall pick.
