This is a good team that needs a few changes. Fiala is unfortunately a goner but this trade would be a big help to Minnesota.

keep him anyway. why would you trade a 25 year old ppg winger if you don't need to lol

The only way the wild are trading him is if they can't extend him. I simply cannot believe that they would part with him willingly

I agree mostly, though I will admit I'm very disappointed in Fiala's playoff performance, but I don't know if Guerin feels the same way. Our beat writer has written so many times that the writing is on the wall for Fiala and he is not the type of media person to throw **** at the wall and hope it sticks. He's very connected, if he's saying stuff like that, there's more than just smoke to that fire. But yeah, trading a PPG winger that's only 25 probably will be a mistake.

yeah. I mean, I get you want a good return for him but that's why I dont understand "if this is the best we can do just extend him". Extend him anyway if you can!

Yep, they do, good thing none of them are important players. Dumba is a fine 2nd pairing guy that only plays part of the season and I'm just done with at this point, Kulikov is a depth defenseman that honestly I want nothing to do with after his playoff performance, and Talbot is a below average goaltender. Every one of them can be replaced with vet min guys aside from Dumba but Addison should take over Dumba's spot anyways, he deserves the minutes.

If Fiala is taken to arb he should fetch a huge return at next year's deadline.

I think we agree that for next season Addison should be playing limited 5v5 minutes, have heavy o-zone starts, lots of PP time, and avoiding other teams' top lines.

Nothing in this description is Dumba's season. This is a description of Spurgeon's season.

Deadline rentals usually get a late 1st and maybe a prospect. I'm sure there are outliers, but I can't think of many that get more. And what if you are in contention?

Not without trading away a high priced contract.

Buffalo would jump over the moon if Guerin offered this trade.
Jost << Mittelstadt, Casey
Talbot >>> Fitzgerald
Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights] >>>>2022 1st round pick (FLA)
While Talbot was a flop in the playoffs, his 32-12-4 record certainly was the reason the Wild were in the playoff.
Here is the skinny, Fiala would return a good roster player, a first and a good prospect.
Mittelstadt is a decent roster player who may become a 50 pt LW/C, FLA first would be late (nearly a second), Fitzgerald's ceiling is probably 5th NHL D-man.

Claude Giroux, a pending UFA just like Fiala would be, went for a protected 1st (2024 or 2025 draft), a 3rd and Owen Tippett.

Would you consider that a huge return? You're thinking more than that?

Fiala would be a pending UFA.

That tends to reduce the return a bit.

Possibly, different situations though. Giroux is a right shot, can play center, but is also older. I don't think Guerin let's it get to that point though, my money is on him moving at the draft.
