Both teams decline
MTL aren’t trading Wright for Lafreniere
NYR likes Schneider
Barron isn’t as good as Schneider but Wright + Barron > Lafreniere + Schneider

That's not really a fair compairaison as we don't know what Wright will do when he enters the NHL.

But Lafreniere hasn’t been good
95% of 1st OA do better than Lafreniere
So IMO Wright > Lafreniere (especially that Wright is a center)

Laffy could bounce back, but I agree with your point. The Habs just bled multiple centers, Wright is exactly the type of player they need and they should only move away from Wright if they can get someone more established than him at C.

They should just draft him and hope he doesn’t go in bust territory. He shouldn’t be starting in the NHL next year either

Laf actually has been pretty good. His 5v5 scoring has been excellent. Hit hit 25 career 5v5 goals faster than Hall, Hughes, Kane, MacKinnon, NugentHopkins, Stamkos, or Tavares got to 20 5v5 goals. He gets zero PP1 time (avg 71 seconds per game) bc PP1 has Panarin and Kreider. Stick him on Montreal and that number would like be closer to 3 like you have with Zegras, Hughes, and Stuzle-- all of whom have almost 9+ times the PP points Laf had this year (2).

As for your trade, I actually think it could happen, I just think you need to swap Lundkvist for Schneider. Maybe add in another prospect like Cuylle to make up the difference. Rangers wouldn't move Schneider bc his play style works better considering their other RD (Lundkvist and Fox play the same game). Rangers are stacked at LW but lack organizational depth at center and dont have a lot of cap space to sign a 2c while Montreal does (like Copp or Strome)

Lafreniere doesn’t play a lot and was a healthy scratch sometimes … I’m not saying he is bad but if he was playing like a 1st OA, he wouldn’t be scratched or not get PP time. Kotkaniemi his one of the best goal scorer in playoffs history before the age of 21 yo. Doesn’t change he isn’t that good despite this stat
