a canes fans take on the leafs

Created by: Cardiak

Description
trade muzzin and brodie, they have good value but sandin and liljegren need to be top 4 d men. The main problem the leafs have is that they have over 30 mil in cap wrapped up in 3 players. only player who deserves what they are being paid its Matthews IMO. nylander has to go, he's just not working and clear up some cap as well. maybe marner too but I don't think he can power his own line. Trade him to a team with a young center who can drive the line and help marner flourish, NJ is the only viable option I think. maybe a 1-1 with Boston for pasta is also viable but that is adding a goal scorer not a playmaker, boston needs a playmaker but Toronto doesn't need a goal scorer, or maybe they do idk I'm not a leafs fan. with the cap space from marner nylander brodie and muzzin gone they can focus on rebuilding through free agency and possibly the draft as well. so now that that's done with you can see the team and flame me for values that are off and messed up lines or whatnot. johnny hockey can get more if he wants it but I'm leaving at much cap space for minor moves I'm too lazy to make like resigning a bunch of crappy rfas who r fringe nhlers

IMO the flaw, if there is one, is that Rielly, while good, is not a #1D.

this isnt a rebuild, this is making a bunch of terrible moves and making the team worse to where they are maybe a wild card team and squandering the next 2 years of matthews career.

yea the leafs arent gonna win a cup with Matthews, sorry to break the news to you. they have like 40 mil in tavares manner Matthews and marner. although dubas is a good gm IMO he really messed up with the marner and nylander signings

not to mention in this hypothetical that would never happen they get a future ppg player in boldy, get a scoring winger for tavares, shane wright, johnny hockey and a team that has a chance of actually winning the cup in two years time. sometimes you gotta take a step backward to move forwards.

yeah, he totally messed up by not knowing there was going to be a global pandemic that shut the league down and caused a flat cap. And if the leafs arnt going to win a cup with Matthews, then why didnt you trade him? and if it's a rebuild, why on earth did you give soon to be 29 year old gaudreau a massive 7 year deal? or trade marner for half value? Or get ripped off for Nylander?

Might be cheaper just to do a regular trade with Minnesota. The have a goalie quandary that could possibly affect Fiala

Can’t see Minnesota trading a budding star on ELC.
They also have many LD on their roster.

The Marner to 2nd to 1st scenario could skip the middle-man

Minnesota isn't trading boldy, nor a 1st round pick for a d they don't need. Even if Guerin decides to no longer resign dumba, Minnesota is stacked at LD and d now and future. Your proposal gets easily decline by Minnesota

Philadelphia probably declines solely for the purpose of not wanting to give up York, management loves him and it was this regime's first draft pick. Would prefer to give Konecny and FLA 2024 1st for Nylander

Flyers would just flip Brodie in that trade, so whether they accept probably depends on Brodie's value across the league.
I have no idea what he's worth.
