Unless the jets move Mark Scheifele they don't have the cap space for William Nylander. Once they resign their RFAs like Pierre-Luc Dubois.

I had a similar question. No two players are identical but

Toffoli can pull a late first, 2 later picks, a middle prospect, and roster player.

Sam Reinhart pulled a first and a top goalie prospect.

Feel like this Nylander deal isn't that far off.

Isn't Campbell going to get like $6.5M for 5 years as a UFA? I can't see the Leafs being able to keep him.

For a guy who's played 1 season of a starter's workload, and barely one at that, 6.5 would be an insane salary for him. I love Campbell but if anyone's willing to offer him that much money, they simply shouldn't be an NHL gm...

Yeah I get that, but Toff was under contract for 3 seasons at an extremely affordable cap hit and can play in all situations on the ice. Reinhart was putting up numbers just below Nylander while playing on **** Buffalo teams for years. Nylander’s played on the offensive powerhouse leafs for these past few years and has shown to be inconsistent and one-dimensional. Not to mention he’s making nearly $7 mil. He’s not a foundational piece that a team builds around, he’s a complementary piece, so any team that’d be acquiring him would already be a contender, but would also need some cap space. The leafs also aren’t necessarily dealing from a position of strength, as everybody and their dog knows they don’t have enough cap space to resign their goalie and bring back their depth pieces. I could see a team like LA, who has a history of trades with the leafs, maybe acquiring him to give their scoring a boost, but I really don’t see the return being much more than what Buchnevich got last year. LA’s not guarantee, so I’d imagine the GM would be very weary about trading first rounders yet.

If someone is dumb enough to sign him to that kind of deal then let him walk
