Giving up a package that includes the 6th and 12th OA for what will turn out to be ALMOST two seasons of Matthews who hasn't been able to get his team out of round one for 6 years straight? NO. I hope they'd be smarter than that. They have Texier, SIllinger, Boqvist, Laine, Roslovic and Ceulemans: all of them 25 or younger. Matthews gives them ONE SHOT at the cup in 22-23 and then he's a UFA who is highly unlikely to stay in Columbus. Being impatient can be very costly to a franchise.

Actually, I live in Toronto where Matthews talk and highlights are played on unavoidable loop 24/7, AND I watched every game of round one.
I didn't blame it all on Matthews, but he is their star player and in game 7, with the season on the line, he had 4 shots in 25 minutes of ice team (5:25 on the PP), and instead of digging deep in the 3rd and being a loud voice on the bench he mostly skated around with that "here we go again" look. Marner was far more noticeable last night even though he registered 0 shots on net in 24 minutes.
And don't ignore that I pointed out 23-24 is his UFA season. So CBJ would have him for exactly ONE playoff run if he's not extending - which I think is highly probable.
