Description
Some reshaping of the D core here:

Manson: I havent been impressed by Manson so far, aside from the physicality he hasnt lived up to expectations so I dont think he will be back

Girard: Hes a very polarizing player (likely because of his size tbh) and while I think hes a very good defenseman I just dont think he fits in COL anymore with Toews and Byram on LD and Makar as the QB on the PP

DeMelo: He put up very good defensive numbers on a poor defensive WPG team which didnt provide him with much help in that area. I think he would pair well with Byram to make a solid 2 way unit + could be given PK time. It sounds like WPG will make some big changes this offseason and may be willing to move roster players for picks if they decide to retool

Dumoulin: His numbers dipped a bit this year but he has a long history of good defensive play while eating a ton of minutes. In a lesser role against easier opponents I think his defensive game could return to form. Ive seen multiple PIT fans making ACGMs moving Dumoulin for picks and while im not sure how realistic it is, I am intrigued

On offense:

Beauvillier: He had a down year (as did Girard) but has a history of good playdriving (as did Girard). He fits nicely onto the 2nd line to replace Burakovsky who leaves as a UFA

Stastny: Assuming Kadri gets a big $$$ deal in free agency COL doesnt have many options for 2C. I dont think its smart to put Newhook full time at 2C without some backup options which Stastny provides. Hes versatile, good offensively and defensively, has tons of experience, and gives a lot of flexibility in how Bednar can set up the lines - He can play 2C, 3C, or be moved to LW in the middle 6 if they want to use 2 of Newhook/Meyers/Compher/etc as the middle 6 Cs

Depth options:

Neal: He actually had pretty decent GF% and xGF% rates (in a small 19 game sample) with STL this year and has produced at a point per game rate in the AHL. He could be signed 1x750k for no risk (can be completely buried in the AHL if it doesnt work out) and he adds size and playoff experience for cheap. I dont feel strongly about this one but its no-risk medium-reward so why not. Maybe give him a PTO first to see how he does and if he looks good then give him 1x750k

Pysyk: I also dont feel very strongly about this but hes pretty versatile and had good underlying numbers on BUF last year

Neal and Pysyk could be replaced with any cheap veteran F and D combo from free agency (or guys like Maltsev)

COL
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony
  2. Iskhakov, Ruslan [Reserve List]
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Girard, Samuel
Additional Details:
Girard for Beauvillier+ is a pretty common base on here. Both players had down seasons this year but have been good in previous seasons. Girard as a D man + better contract + younger has more value but I think two 2nds + prospect makes up for that. I was also thinking of Mayfield instead of one of those pieces but Im not sure if NYI would still want to move him

Positionally I think it makes sense for both teams but value wise there are some differing opinions. The value is similar to trades posted by @islesadist and @filipcesnak9
2.
COL
  1. Dumoulin, Brian ($2,050,000 retained)
PIT
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Not sure if PIT would actually move him but I've seen a couple PIT ACGMs shipping him out for cheap

He provides no offense but could be great in a shutdown role against lesser competition than what he's used to

3rd is for retention - either PIT can retain or a team like ARZ/BUF/etc
3.
COL
  1. DeMelo, Dylan
Additional Details:
UFA rights to Paul Stastny
WPG
  1. Kaut, Martin
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
If WPG blows it up then Id like Sakic to look into getting DeMelo

I think the Isles slightly overpay here tho not by much. Beau, a 2nd, and Salo seems a little bit better. Maybe something in between that as well

I heard Sakic feels snubbed by PS after he signed in STL. I'd be shocked if he came back.

I'd rather have Colorado keep Girard, he played very well when not with either Johnson. Girard needs to be with another good defenseman to really benefit from his offensive upside and transition game and Demelo would be a fantastic fit with Girard. Would allow Toews-Makar to be together and a great balanced second pair. I think Demelo requires a little more, probably another pick. Keeping Girard would allow colorado not to acquire Dum from Pittsburgh and save the picks. Stastny would be a great player to add back, I think it takes around 3.5 though.

Extremely unlikely the Jets move DeMelo if that is all that is coming back.

I hope a grudge doesnt prevent Sakic from making a move like that. Stastny is one of the few C options who will sign short term (to not cause any problems with the MacKinnon/Byram.Newhook/etc extensions next offseason) with a low enough AAV and be able to step into a 2C role if needed. I think hes the perfect type of player to have as we transition Newhook into a 2C role

Add a prospect? Kaut/Maltsev maybe?

Realistically, unless cap space forces their hand, there is probably nothing short of an unreasonable overpay that gets the Jets to move him as the only have 2 RHD at the moment.

I can see how having PS would make things more comfortable. I say give Newhook the reigns bc he's ready to burst out. If it doesnt work, Avs will make playoffs anyways, and can rent a 2C.

Dumolin can’t stay healthy anymore, no thanks.

Over paid Nichushkin, I think COL fans need to re-evaluate what his actual market value is as these number are getting out of hand (he is max a 5mil player, not a penny more).

Sturms been way more underwhelming than Mansons been, not even close in my opinion. I’m happy to let him walk and give Meyers 4C and bring up a kid like Ranta or Maltsev
