Actual realistic offseason Read description

Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2022
Published: May 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Nylander trade isn't realistic, please comment trades for a young player still but with a player not worth above 3-4M because im trying to save money to allocate that to different area's like goalie or minor bottom 6 fixes. I think an add like Frankie Vatrano if available would be an actual target this offseason for the leafs.

-Gio take a hometown discount
-One of Marchment,Palat,Domi or Nichushkin should be another target. I just went with Marchment because we had him before smh

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Jeannot, Tanner
Additional Details:
Nashville side of why they would do this: Young Swed that will hopefully convince Forsberg to stay. Nylander is also a very good player and get 2 more years of control. I also don't know y'all's cap space so I get why not if its too close to the cap.
NSH
  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
For the Leafs side of this you free up 6.9M and still get a young good player you'll have to pay next year for a cheaper price. Also just need a change
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Why the Ducks or any team may consider this:
From one side he could be a good option to have next to one of y'all's young dmen. Yes hes a little overpriced but with this Ducks team which is in a rebuild (may make it not yr) bring in a veteran dman for a late 2nd rounder is a steal.
ANA
  1. Muzzin, Jake
Additional Details:
Have a filler and a younger option in Sandin next year and free up 5.625 for a 2nd rounder (maybe you can get more) played it safe I think
3.
TOR
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (CBJ)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Anyteam
CBJ
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Anyteam for this price. Also whoever wants him hes very good. Tough player to give up but 3.5 is a little much for the Leafs cap. Why any team would want him: He's a great 2-way forward that can play any line and can PK at a good rate.
4.
TOR
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
ANYTEAM IDC. Hes a solid 6 dman option or depth pickup for a contender who can also PK solidly.
5.
TOR
    Anyteam
    CHI
    1. Mrázek, Petr
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (DAL)
    3. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
    6.
    TOR
    1. Mayfield, Scott
    2. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
    Additional Details:
    Why the Islanders do this:
Plain in simple you get a pinch of youth and speed in that lineup, get a solid PKr.
Id also take 2 3’s if the late 2nd is too much
    NYI
    1. Mikheyev, Ilya
    Additional Details:
Why the Leafs do this this:
Get a draft pick back and just a change of depth forwards

Nothing about Nashville moving Jeannot is realistic. He is someone who defines their teams new identity

The obsession with jeannot is fascinating and i always wonder if people realise hes only a year younger than nylander and couldnt even touch nylanders rookie year despite being much older

It’s more the physical side of things that people love about Jeannot. Nylander is the superior scorer/playmaker. Jeannot is the bigger and much more physical player. Nylander has 107 hits over 7 seasons. Jeannot has 318 in just 1 season. He’s willing to get into the dirty places and throw his body around and he still contributes on the scoreboard which is pretty rare for his style of player. Folingo, b. Tkachuk, and t. Wilson are the only players within 100 hits of him that also have 40+ points

Ah yes, love to be obsessed with a stat that counters cant even agree on how to track. Hits is the most useless counting number there is

Physical play can be treasured by certain teams… Nashville is one of them. You can argue about best way of tracking it but it’s undeniable Jeannot is much more physical than nylander.

And he's not nearly as good at the rest of hockey, so it doesn't matter if he's more physical. Ristolainen is much more physical than rielly, should the leafs make that trade?

Giving up a 2nd is nowhere near a steal for Anaheim — it legit makes no sense

Ristolainen also has a terrible contract. I don’t think anyone should trade for him. I think a more apt comparison would be a younger But less proven tom wilson. Jeannots numbers this year are on par with Wilson when he was 24. Will it go beyond this year? Who knows.

Not sure what the leafs needs are or how much their leadership/gm want to up their physical game.

In a vacuum, this trade proposal is bad value to the leafs. Nylander is the better player in all facets of the game outside of physicality.

It’s also not the direction Nashville wishes to take because they have purposely been going for a more physical style of play and nylander doesn’t fit that.
