Big move

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Nylander- This is the big one. Toronto may look to shake things up after another 1st round, game 7 loss. Nylander would instantly upgrade Detroit’s top 6, though the cost would be high. Toronto would add a good, defensively sound, middle 6 center, a middle 6 winger who can score but will be coming off an injury, a D prospect who could be Detroit’s 2nd most NHL ready LD prospect behind Edvinsson, a 2nd this year and a future 1st.

Strome- Trading Suter makes an already existing need even more important but Strome is a solid 2C who could thrive even more with Vrana and Nylander.

Martinez- Going rate is typically a 3rd but I think a combination of Vegas’s cap problem, the way Vegas seems to be viewed by other GMs, and Yzerman being Yzerman, price could drop a little.

Cole- Solid, cheap defensive LD on a short deal. Could be a good partner for Hronek.

Holtby- Older but still good, short term backup goalie who can also mentor Nedeljkovic.

Edvinsson and Berggren- make the team out of camp

Johansson and Soderblom- on the cusp, could get called up.

Pontus Andreasson- Wild card

I don’t think those pieces are interesting enough to TOR.

Just seems like quantity over quality none of those players are near the player Nylander is. That first will also probably not be too high.

I get the idea but to land nylander you need at least 1 really good piece in the deal. That 8th oa or bertuzzi extended at a good number maybe. That's just not gonna do it.

I'm sorry but Detroit is in no position to give up that much for Nylander.

Wings do not need another middle 6 winger:

Already have Fabbri, Bertuzzi, Vrana, Rasmussen (who is most certainly not a centre as proven last year---the last few weeks when he was good he was moved to the wing), Zadina, Berggren, and potentially Sundqvist. That's 7 middle 6 wingers for 4 positions. Even elevating Bertuzzi to the 1st line means you are 2 wingers too deep. And now you want to add another....hard pass.

Toronto passes, Fabbri with his 3rd torn ACL is a liability right now. Not sure if Detroit would trade for Nylander. We can outbid other teams for Filip Forsberg services if needed i'd rather do that than trade for Nylander.

Alec Martinez trade is fine, He's one i can see Yzerman trading for this coming summer.

UFA signings look okay, no need to sign both Hellberg and Holtby. Hellberg already said that he won't play in the AHL it's Detroit or another team.. Strome will want closer to $5,750,000 x 5-6 years doubt he takes a 4 year term.

Yzerman is more likely to sign UFA Palat than trade assets for Nylander.

or Forsberg or any other winger as the Wings have 36.5M in cap space and can outbid just about everyone but Buffalo and Ottawa.

Honestly that's not enough for Nylander, IMO. I'm not sure why Toronto bites, as the pieces are all wrong.

Fabbri won't play a good portion of the year, then is a question mark after that due to having 3 knee surgeries.
Suter is a bottom 6er in Toronto's lineup and probably doesn't bring anything they don't already have.
McIsaac - it's unknown if he'll ever be an NHLer.
2nd round pick doesn't do much for TOR
2024 1st doesn't move the needle all that much either.

Personal opinion: I think if DET trades for Nylander, you'll have bigger pieces moving such as Hronek or Bertuzzi (if Covid regulations were to end). You might also see Mrazek or Kerfoot going to Detroit with Nylander to give TOR more cap space going into FA.
