Kerfoot certainly isn’t worth a 1st from the Canes

as nice as a lat 1st would be, the leafs would be much much better off keeping kerfoot (if you cant upgrade) then trading him and signing domi. kerfoot is much better than he is.

Three non Leaf teams say no. Interesting logic that Carolina pays a first for one year of 3.5m Kerfoot but the Leaf are able to sign Domi for just 2.5m

And at 3 years 4.5 mil per Carolina just keeps Trocheck.

Jeff skinner had 52 even strength points. Is he worth a first?

Here's Toronto's problem:

They don't have a number one defenseman. Trying to win the Stanley Cup without one is bucking the odds in a BIG way.

Also, they are overpaying Tavares and Marner collectively by about 6 million, which means that if they somehow luck their way into a chance to acquire said defenseman, they are going to have move a significant portion of cap space to get him. And IMO, if they move Nylander to do it, they get weaker.

They didn't just run into a great opponent in Tampa. The Bolts did not look good in this series and gave Toronto ample opportunity to take control of the series. And it wasn't their goaltending, either. Campbell did his job. The Leafs just aren't good enough.

They could just sit and wait for a more favourable opponent. But in that conference, good luck with that.

Mrazek is a cap dump, Toronto isn't getting anything for him. Plus hawks are rebuilding so unless they're getting a 1st and Mrazek for future considerations I think they pretty easily decline.
