Embrace the Rebuild - CAR dance partner

Created by: IrishTiger
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2022
Published: May 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If 2 of Malkin, Rust, and Letang are going to walk, the window is gone in the stacked metro with very young NJ, NYR, and CAR that are not going anywhere. There is no point hanging on to Crosby to willow in the land of mediocrity (7-16th in the standings). Blow it up, add prospects and picks, and make a legit play to suck enough next year for a shot at Bedard with $20MM-ish in cap to work with going into 2023-24.

Crosby's not getting traded - period. He's probably a future team coach or front office guy for the team, much like Lemieux.

The window to be competitive is still there - they win the series with better goaltending and some injury luck.

Rebuild on the fly can be done - Guentzel (3rd round), Marino (6th round)...

There is no way we still have an open window if we lose Letang and 1 of Rust or Malkin (actually no clue what we do at the #2 C spot if we lost Malkin) - I just don't see it. Our division is too good. Also, Crosby could go play elsewhere for 3 years while we rebuild and come back to the Penguins.

Finally Jake & Marino took 3-4 years to develop. There is no way our window is still open then.

- Mrázek is going to cost the Leafs at least a 2nd to dump (NTC & $3.8MM for 2 years)
- Jarry at $1.75MM for a year is worth a late first
- Carter at $1.6MM for 2 years is worth a mid-2nd

mrazek wont cost a 2nd to dump because the leafs would just buy him out for free if it cost that
jarry at 1.75 is worth a low 2nd on his best day, which it isnt
Carter at 1.6 is worth a 3rd to a team like the leafs because he's 37 years old and has two years of term and could fall off a cliff at any second and they have zero time for old dead cap space

They have zero time for dead cap space, yet you are talking about buying our Mrazek (which equates to $4.7MM in dead cap paid out over the next 4 years)?

Also, how is this not Jarry's best day? He was an All-Star the last 2 years.
