Toronto is going to decline that deal. Samsonov hasn't proven enough to be the main piece in a Nylander deal. Sheary is a nice add to their forward group, but you're losing a lot of shot generation by subtracting Nylander. The salary cap savings won't be enough to let them get a good enough player to make this worth while.

I was thinking that too, however the Leafs are going to be desperate to get a starting goaltending since Campbell is likely gone, and Dubas has reached the point where he needs to shake up the core given how they cannot mentally win a playoff series. These two factors combined may push him to make a rash decision.
