Why would he sign here for that cheap, he could easily get more elsewhere, and on a better team

Better team has $8-9M to throw at Malkin?

$25M coming off the books at the end of the year. It's palatable.

Russians love New York

BUF is on the upswing by the looks of it. I'm sure the Bruins or someone offers him a good deal but does a contender have $8-9M to throw at him?

They love new York, but more where Rangers are. La could throw money. So can Anaheim, and so on. If Minnesota trade fiala and dumba, they can fir a few years, etc..

Minnesota and Boston are my picks for where he lands tbh. Just feel BUF has a chance given their situation.

I would be very surprised if Buffalo were to try to make a big splash move like that in free agency. Particularly with so many young player contracts expiring in the next two years that’s where the majority of their current cap space will go at that time. Big money on a short term deal like two years or less makes a lot more sense. I’m saying two years because that’s when Power and Dahlin both need new deals.

Malkin is an interesting idea for the Sabres to entertain
BUT
Would he entertain the idea of playing for the Sabres?

I’d say it’s doubtful, even if we threw crazy cash at him
For 7.5mil per, I’d say his agent wouldn’t even relay the offer to him. There’s gonna be other teams that will surely offer that where he’d have a better chance at winning

Make that offer to him to be 12.5mil per (or more even),
and maybe he at least thinks it over

In all sincerity. IF BUF was willing to eat money...sign Malkin to a 1 year contract and trade him to a contender 50% retained a couple games into the season.

That that’s the best you can do shows how brutal this concept is.

It does! Because it's a pathetic argument from your end to begin with.

Do you actually think highly sought after NHL players want to go to buffalo?

Not particularly, but you make it sound like it's unheard of. Taylor Hall can be a good and well a bad example of that.

Taylor hall can be a weird example of that. Pretty odd circumstances. Unexpected flat cap in a pandemic. Also seems like buffalo was a place to stash him for a few months before he got to the place he wanted to be.

I agree. Seemed Boston was going to sign him but cap was the issue no? I guess it can go both ways but I tend to put a lot of stock into the "Money talks" ideology and the sabres didn't completely show nothing this year to entice players to consider signing.
