I think its fair but Isles say no. They’ll be using Mayfield’s cheap contract to their advantage.

He can be replaced. I'd do this in a heartbeat.

I'd argue this -is- using it to their advantage. They change Beauvillier into Nylander and use Mayfield to keep from having to send out any picks or futures. Mayfield is a very good player, but is probably gone after the 2022-23 season, and there are plenty of guys that can be signed in UFA - guys like Justin Braun or Colin Miller, or you could even run Grant Hutton out there in a sheltered role for 15-16 minutes a night and get 21-22 each game out of Pulock & Dobson.

We’d have to get someone cheap to do it. Would adding in like a 3rd or something to get Holl be solid? I’d do it if we guaranteed a replacement but I don’t think Hutton is that

i think you could sign a Justin Braun-type (or the man himself) to the same type of hit that Holl has ($2M), and arguably walk away keeping that 3rd rounder and with a better player.

I agree that Hutton might not be there, but I'd like the idea of him coming up and rotating in and out of that RD3 spot. He looked okay in his 16 games this year, and he's a bigger boy (6'4", 207) in the Mayfield mold. He really just never got a shot because the Isles have been more or less set at RD since he joined the org (when Johnny Boychuk was still around), so get him some run this year to see if he's got something untapped.
