Description
At this point, i think if giordano wants to come back to the Leafs, they would trade Muzzin. They would aslo save money which could be spent elsewhere.

The question here is, is Gibson comtois and rackell better than Nylander and Campbell.

Why trade for Gibby's 6.4 cap hit when Campbell has better stats and could likely sign at 5million?

How do they trade NTC Muzzin? Good teams that he might be interested in his services don't have cap either. I'm doubting Ducks are interested in the trade. Even at that 20 man rosters don't work

Yeah, I don't disagree with not trading for the cap hit, but I still feel like there's a reason why Gibby still finished 4th in the NHL players vote on which goalie you'd want in a winner-takes-all game (Holy crap I'm starting to sound like a Habs fan when they talk about Price tears of joy)

I didn't know of that vote. I'm high on Gibby, he's great. But statistically, Soup has been better lately, and is cheaper.

Haha, I'm a Habs fan. We're the worst.

Hahaha, I knew you were pal. I (personally, and there's absolutely bias here so take it with a grain of salt) believe that Gibby is a victim of Dallas Eakins. The Ducks system, especially defensively, is absolutely brutal. Analytically, Gibby hasn't been "great" since Eakins was hired, but it's pretty much a guarantee that if the Ducks win, it's because Gibby stood on his head. While his numbers may not be there, I also wouldn't move him without a serious overpay.

All of that being said, Campbell has been solid for the Leafs, and I'd keep him if I was them...plus, Gibby has a 10 team NTC, which, if we've learned anything, likely includes the majority of Canadian teams...I really wouldn't change much Leafs-wise if I was them, but a lot of their fans are definitely screaming for change right now, which is why guys like Gibby or JT Miller are going to be seen on 90% of their trades for the next bit.

Hey thanks for the good convo dude. I appreciate constructive feedback and debate. I take your word for it, I don't watch the Ducks too often but man they're gonna be sick so soon.

Right back at you!

Yeah, the days between now and mid July 2023 are going to be some of the most important in franchise history. Lots of different directions to go being in such an enviable position cap wise, but also incredibly easy to f**k up from an asset management perspective. It's a borderline dangerous spot to be in at this point, especially if they (falsely) believe that they're closer than they actually are.

Pretty happy that when Verbeek decided he wasn't happy with the player development from the AHL end, he immediately made a move though. Less happy about him keeping Eakins, but I'm hoping that move was made because the coach he wants wasn't available yet. I don't know how much more of Derek Grant and/or Gerry Mayhew playing on Trevor Zegras's line I'll be able to take tears of joy

Trading Gibson for Nylander solves one problem in the intermediate term and just creates an equal problem longer term. Solving the goalie question for five years has an intangible value that's hard to quantify. No, thanks. (The rest of that proposal favors Toronto.)
