If Miller must go

Created by: Danny_Canuck
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2022
Published: May 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This roster is built to have cap flexibility and with an eye to making noise beginning in 2023-2024. If JR feels the need to trade Miller (as much as I'd hate to) I could see this being an interesting roster. Could be too soft up front which can be addressed following year. Brought in Lemieux to add a bit more grit for now. Flip Kerfoot, Schenn, and Pearson (with some retention) at deadline if team is not clearly making playoffs. Faber could replace Schenn. Could have a lot of picks for 2023 draft.

Add Knies to that Miller trade also. Conditional pick for playoff success too 👌🏼

Canucks have really put themselves in tough with the QO for Boeser's contract. I can't imagine the Kings want anything to do with Brock at over 5.5mil, especially when it looks like they'll be able to get their 37 goal scorer signed for about the same amount of $$.

As far as the trade, Faber is unavailable and won't be traded unless he finishes this next year of college and says he's going back for his senior year. But as he's just going to be a junior, the Kings still have his rights and the plan for him is to be the eventual replacement for Matt Roy.

Boesner doesn't get nearly that return. That's really funny to think Miller gets that much return from any team....and certainly not the Leafs.
Now the Leafs might trade two years of Nylander for one year of Miller.

Beggers can't be choosers. Leafs need some respect beyond the handshake line. Nylander is great, but he's the only core player that makes sense to move. While the perennial loser franchise got some good vibes for trying their best, the vibes are going to wear off quick and mgmt realizes they both (i) need to move Nylander and (ii) need to acquire someone like Miller. Miller could be signed long-term for just a bit above Nylander's current contract, or he could be flipped for high value. He's pretty much the perfect fit in TO. Liljegren needed to get it done, but Leafs can keep Kerfoot. Figured it was doing them a favour.

Ok fine - basically just a template. LA is rich in RHD prospects, owing to their smart rebuild/excellent drafting (which Canucks fans were begging for). Now we need to find a 19-22 YO RHD or two. Believe me I wouldn't want to lose Boeser, and at 6.25 per on a 3-yr I'd prefer to keep him. I doubt they settle on qualifying him at 7.5m for one year, but even if they do it's not the end of the world as they'll have another year of control. How do you rank LA's RHD prospects out of curiosity?

My personal ranking of LA's RD prospects goes as such

1) Clarke
2) Faber
3) Grans
4) Spence
5) Durzi

I really do like Durzi and what he brings, but I think the others all have a ceiling as high or better than him. In terms of RIGHT NOW, I go Clarke, Faber, Durzi, Spence, Grans.

Loser franchise? Beggars can't be choosers? Non playoff teams are the losers. Gee Vancouver hasn't won a Cup in over a hundred years. Hey, I've been one to trade Nylander to for cap space to fill other holes, including signing a NHL goalie. The trade proposed is just bad for the Leafs. I doubt if the Canucks get they type of return for Miller from any team.

How about Brock Boeser for Grans + 2022 2nd + 2023 3rd? Assuming Brock comes with a 3 x 6.25 deal? Honestly I'd be very surprised if the Canucks would do this just interested in your thoughts.
