Keeping Kevin

Description
Thought I’d take a look at what kind of cap crunch Minnesota is going to be in this off season. All I ever seem to hear is that Fiala is gone for picks and or prospects. But the solution seems simple to me… move Zuccarello. His M-NTC (10 team no trade list) kicks in July 1, the same day his $3,000,000 bonus is paid. Moving him out after that would give the acquiring team 2 years of Zucc, with a total of $9,500,000 due. Steep for many teams, but it’s not like Zucc isn’t worth the money. Even at 34 years old, he is still playing up to his contract value imo. So there you go. Easy peasy. Sadly you have to move Zucc, and deal with more cap issues next year, but keeping Kevin is that “simple”

The one thing this doesn’t address, or any of the folks who have previously suggested it, is why would you spoil the club house and piss off Kaprizov for 2 years of cap relief? It’s not the worst idea on paper but when people get involved? 😬

I think we're better off just moving Dumba anyways. Zucc is better at his position than Dumba is at his, he has great chemistry with literally our best player in franchise history, and you'd have to get him to waive his NMC. They have the same cap hits, so the relief is the same either way.

I think its crazy that they would find Zucc more expendable than Dumba. IMO if they want to continue to be a great team and keep Kaprizov happy they need to keep Zucc. I'd personally move Dumba

Zuccarello isn't getting moved. Wild have valued kaprizov over Zuccarello since day one and have had the best players with Zuccarello. Fiala is all but gine.
Tweet below

They decided to trade fiala a year ago, not because of six playoff games. They spent 8.2 million on greenway, goligoski, jost and merrill in-season. if they wanted to keep fiala, they don't do that.

This is a tweet, response from Russo to a wild fan today: posting it again. Thought I will share with you

And why would you do that for 1 year of cap flexibility? I will not accept Addison as a top 4 ready guy ATM, regardless of what we think he can do.

But what happens the year after when you’ve signed Fiala long term and now you have no money to sign Boldy? He is not looking at a low cost bridge, regardless what anybody says about team control.

I don't envy Guerin. Lots of problems to fix on this roster. I agree on Addison, if you move Dumba that blue line is in rough shape but it'll be tough to acquire a top 4 D that's cheap. Maybe you call up the Kings, they're swimming in RD.

Ultimately I just think the writing is on the wall for Fiala. Trading him for futures allows you to re-sign everybody. Center depth is still terrible though, even if Rossi makes the roster, I'd like to see that addressed this offseason but it won't be easy with our cap.

I’m doing up a 23 roster ATM and have 12 mil to sign 2 goalies and Boldy/Dumba. Fiala is not feasible under any circumstances and it looks like they’ll be parting ways with Jost as well. The goal should be to be in the best position on 2025 and that means a max term deal for Boldy. The wild card in all of this is Middleton.

I would trade Zucc 100 times before I would trade Dumba…but I would also be willing to trade Dumba…

It really depends on what Fiala's next contract is going to be. Once you get past the $8m/yr mark trading Fiala looks better and better with the Wild's dead cap and lack of center problems.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dumba is gone this offseason. if he doesn't sign a (cheap) new deal with term.
