Why would NJ want another RHD? Don't they have plenty?

As a ranger fan Id definitely do that. Could use that Cap and RD is our strongest portion of the team. Trouba has been good this year, rough first series though

Nothing is a guarantee whether it is 2nd overall or 8th overall.

Detroit fans were pissed when we didnt get 1st or 2nd overall in 2019 - Ended up with Moritz Seider at 6 (would have got him at 8)
#2 Kappo Kaako (3 seasons, 157 games, 58 points) #3 Kirby Dach (3 seasons 157 games, 59 points) #6 Seider (1 season, 82 games, 50 points)

Detroit GOT ROBBED in the messed up version of a draft lottery in 2020, ended up getting 4th overall when we should have had 1st - Got Lucas Raymond
#1 was "future franchise player" Lafreniere (2 seasons, 135 games, 52 points) #2 Quinton Byfield (2 seasons, 46 games, 11 points) - #4 Lucas Raymond (1 season, 82 games, 57 points)

Anyone in New Jersey who says that this is lopsided and they need more is insane. 6 spots in this draft means nothing and i wouldnt even offer this to move up the 6 spots. I think the value in the 1st and 2nd is good enough to hold on to over moving up.

Love Trouba but he's expendable with Schneider. Plus Rangers need the cap space.

I understand the value may not all be there, however moving up 6 spots in the draft will never cost a top 6 forward or one of the best goalie prospects in the game. That's an unrealistic ask. You don't trade a known quantity like that for an unknown. I agree the value may not totally be there but it is close.

That is way to much to give up to move up 6 spots. I do like the idea of moving Hronek and adding Trouba though I am not a fan of Trouba's cap hit. I think swapping out Hronek for a prospect like Mazur, McIsaac or Johansson and tossing in a 2nd is a reasonable price to move up. I don't think Jersery would take it or should take it but I wouldn't pay much more then that. Nobody in this draft is a sure thing like a McDavid or Matthews. Even Wright has looked mediocre at times.

Its not just moving up 6 spots though. Its moving up to #2 overall pick. Where guys like Malkin, Barkov, Hedman, etc have been drafted.

So, it would take a lot more. The #8 pick probably doesn't make up half of what it would take.

I had a feeling there would be a lot of disparity in this scenario. Personally I think there could be a smidge more value in Detroit's package, but there's a reason top 3 picks are not usually traded - because no one really knows the value.

It would be foolish for Detroit to give up a key player for a pick, no matter how high - no player who is yet to be drafted is worth trading a key NHL player, because no one knows what top picks will amount to be.

8OA pick + high 2nd round pick is going to make up the bulk of your offer, and adding a middle six D like Hronek is sweetening the pot.
