I think trading Connor Brown makes sense for Ottawa, but Tyson Barrie isn't what they need in the slightest

Why is that? They don't have on their roster a pure PP QB style defenseman. I see a fit but also adding Barrie means they need to move on from one of Zub, Zaitsev and Hamonic.

Chabot, Sanderson, Braanstrom. All can easily run PP1

Chabot is a pure PP QB? Excellent dman but his offense has taken a backseat as his defensive numbers have improved from his sophomore season to now.

Braanstrom career high 14 pts is going to run PP1?

Sanderson with 0 NHL games played is going to run PP1?

Barrie is what he is and that's a pure offensive defenseman, who makes your PP better (look at EDMs PP pre-Barrie vs with Barrie)

If Keith is retiring, the Oilers get a $3.8M cap recapture bonus.

Why sign Kulak for 4 years when the Oilers have a bunch of LHD prospects coming soon?

Right, but my guess is the Hossa route LTIR rather than out right retirement.

Win now mode, same reason Holland signed Barrie to a 3yr deal when he had Bouchard.
That being said, do you believe Nemo or Samorukov will be better than Kulak in the next 2-3 years? As i'm not sold that they will be

That would really be a bad trade for Ottawa

They need a rock solid RD to play with Chabot, not a Barrie type. Like a Methot for Karlsson

Hamonic is a stop gap (Zaitsev too but Hamonic is better)

Chabot - RD
Sanderson - Zub
Brannstrom - Holden/Thomson/JBD

Does Keith has a legit skin condition though?

LTIR is not a decision, it happens or it doesn't

First thing, it wouldn't be a "really bad trade" for OTT as it's been discussed in other comments Barrie isn't coming in to be a top pair player. He would be coming in to assist the PP, which is his single biggest attribute and to play soft 3rd pair minutes.

As an aside to the Barrie to OTT trade, one thing is OTT is not a destination much like EDM is not a destination. It is unfortunate, trust me as an Oilers fan I know all too well, that in order to get players the team has to trade for guys with term. As a bottom 3rd team in the league with spending problems don't expect a big UFA splash.

Keith doesn't have Eczema but what he did have was a bad concussion this season in addition to a upper body injury (likely shoulder) that kept him out of the line up.
What are you inferring that LTIR is not a decision? Do you think Keith would sit out the season if he were able to play? No he has a contract so if he is no longer able to play he will go LTIR rather than retirement

I can guarantee you that basically every Sens fan would be in riot mode if that trade were to happen. 90% of Sens fans bash Dorion non stop or at least criticize him. This would just be another ammo.

But don't worry, I know Ottawa is a very small market and no one watches them outside of their fans. People don't know what Brown does for this team. 2nd most used forward on the PK in the whole league since he joined Ottawa in 2019-20. Most ice-time among Sens forwards in every season he has played in Ottawa. The coach uses him in all situations, and understandably as he is one of the very few quality veterans on the team.

With Chabot, Sanderson, Brannstrom and Thomson, PP shouldn't be needed as much as you seem to think. They're actually going to continue using 4 forwards on PP1 (Batherson, Norris, Stutzle, Tkachuk)

Never argued about that, not sure why you're telling me that now?

It all depends if a player is cleared to play in a CONTACT league or not. It's not a decision, it's in doctors hands, no matter how hard people believe in conspiracies
