That doesn't get you Cooley, no shot. Absolutely nothing there for PIT and Hornqvist isn't a negative asset unless they get desperate.

Why give them away for next to nothing, especially with Rust walking?

Why would we want Kapanen? That spot is going to Jonatan Berggren who's probably going to be better than Kapanen anyhow. Keep it simple Albin Grewe and a 4th round pick for Marcus Pettersson.

I think if Pitt wants to move kap, pettersson, dumoulin, we can find a deal in Detroit for them. Hornquist gets moved because of cap and they may give him away for nothing but I'm not sure they pay to move him. Could buy him out. Arizona may move the 3rd but they need a center worse than Detroit so I can't think theyd let Cooley slip away. Now day of if NJ takes Cooley maybe they drop down for some extra picks instead of taking nemec or Slackovsky.

Kapanen is a really good player with very good underlying numbers, especially defensively. He scores better than Fabbri even when he's having a down year. Detroit is still missing a top-6 winger on the right side and Kasperi shoots right and we're short of those players in Detroit.

Berggren isn't going to be started on the 2nd line and with Fabbri unlikely to be ready when the season starts Zadina will likely play on his 3rd line spot. That would give us a top line of Bert+Larkin+Raymond, 2nd of Vrána+New guy+Kapanen, 3rd of Zadina+Suter+Berggren.

Kapanen was on pace for over 60 points last season and if paired with Vrána and Copp/Strome he will again. He's a good fit in Detroit, and the price is right.
