1. Jack Johnson? Why? I don't think he is needed on this team given his sub-optimal defensive metrics and capabilities at his age.
2. Highly doubt Campbell signs for less than 5 years. Only way he takes 4 years is if it's an AAV of $5M. I'm guessing he will look for a $20M contract.
3. Nylander trade seems like a major overpayment from the Leafs for only 1 year of JT Miller. My guess is it would be Miller plus Boeser coming back in that trade. Nylander is a top line winger on any team and is THE star player on probably 15-18 teams.
4. Don't think Donskoi is worth it when giving up Robertson, who is currently the Leafs closest prospect to seeing a full-time roster spot.
5. Why is Mrazek on LTIR? He's not currently injured, so at the very least he is in the minors and his cap hit is still north of $2.5M, I believe.

Miller AND Boeser… for Nylander…. Do you see how ridiculous that is?

Ottawa would get this offer or better for Connor Brown at the deadline so I'm not sure why they'd feel pressed to move him now unless the offer was too good to refuse. And IF they were moving him before the season started I don't think it would be within the division.

I love Brock Boeser and I think he's a phenomenal player. I don't think his value is low, but I do think that Nylander's value will be exceptionally high, especially after a career high in points.

2021-22:
Nylander: 80 Pts, 34 G in 81 GP. Elite skater, passer, and an underrated sniper. 2 years left on his deal at a solid AAV. A very high ceiling (85+ pts, 40+ goals are not out of the realm of possibility on a yearly basis). He is also a proven playoff performer (say what you will about TOR's lack of playoff success, but Nylander has shown up and his point totals prove this - 30 points in 39 playoff GP).

Boeser: 46 Pts, 23 G in 71 GP. Now, I understand that Boeser has had a tough year or two, so I don't think his stats are reflective of his best, nor do I think his trade value is/should be low. Again, I'm a fan of Boeser. But, objectively, his production has been stagnant or declined since 2017-18. He has never hit 30 goals, nor 60 points. He is also an RFA this summer (summer of 2022). There is no cost-certainty, like there is for Nylander.

JT Miller is a commodity, no doubt. However, he will be a UFA in the summer of 2023 (meaning only 1 season under contract remaining). That alone places his value well-below Nylander's. Moreover, JT Miller has never hit 30 goals, and seems to be a 40-50 point player (he hit 72 pts in 2019-20, and 99 pts in 2021-22, therefore only two 60+ pt seasons). Miller has not hit 60 points in any other season (Nylander has three 60+ pt seasons and one 59 pt season in much less time). He is also older than Nylander (which you may very well view as a positive since he is more experienced, but can also easily be a negative since his skating ability may begin to deteriorate). JT Miller had an unbelievable season this year (2021-22) with 32 goals and 99 points. However, Nylander's 34 goals and 80 points is still exceptional in its own right, especially given the fact that he scored 34 goals playing on TOR's 2nd and 3rd lines. Also, JT Miller does not have a robust track-record of playoff success with 44 points in 78 playoff GP (again, compared to Nylander's 30 points in 39 GP). Miller may very well become a key playoff performer, but currently, we can not make that case. Finally, Miller likely brings a lot of intangibles to the table, but it's very difficult to evaluate that since he was traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning just prior to their back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. I am definitely NOT saying that Miller was the reason for TBL's lack of success, but I am saying that it's difficult to argue that he has "it", in the context of a Cup contender.

Thus:

2 cost-certain years of Nylander at a very reasonable AAV for 1 year of JT Miller and the rights to Boeser (no cost-certainty). I'm sure TOR would have to throw in a draft pick as well, but it's a relatively even trade when you factor in player potential, playoff success, etc.

Imagine having a problem with Jack Johnson being signed to a minimum contract and a scratch, insert any 7th dman you want.
Any team that pays 30 year old Jack Campbell $5M or gives him 5 years is a bottom feeder with a stupid GM. 4x4.25 is a very fair deal for Jack.
JT Miller is a 100 point player who works hard and has an edge, don't need to say anything else on that.
I'll admit the Donskoi trade is a lot, just don't see Robertson fitting in the top 6 on this team especially with the Miller acquisition so he's likely to be traded in any sort of offseason like this.
Mrazek has had how many hip injuries and surgeries and missed significant time? If Leafs want to LTIR him they could probably do it, if not chuck him with a pick to the team that wants the lowest pick to take him on/buy him out.

1.Yes, exactly. Why would you sign Jack Johnson knowing that there are probably 30-35 better options available in FA, alone?
2. Jack Campbell is 30 years old - correct. The market will dictate what he gets on his next deal, and since there are not many FA goalies available, he will get $20M+ on his next deal. I agree that $4.25M x 4 years is "fair" - however, there will always be a team (like EDM) who will offer him more. Campbell's agent will not settle for less than $20M on his next deal, regardless of how you spread out the dollars and length. Please look at any and all recent goaltender signings in the NHL and tell me why his agent would settle for less. $20M will be the minimum he gets on his next deal, and that's a guarantee.
3. JT Miller is not a "100 point player". He scored 99 points in 2021-22, which we can definitely round up to 100 points, however, he averages between 40-50 points per season (two 60+ point seasons in his career including 2021-22). To say he is a 100 point player is extremely misleading, and factually inaccurate.
4. Saying that the Donskoi trade is "a lot" is a major understatement. He is not a top-6 player on TOR.
5. Mrazek would have to agree to being 'injured' and the league may very well look into it if they get a sense that it's illegitimate. You can't simply put any player on LTIR to get rid of their cap hit (you can easily find 10 examples of current players who are playing despite low quality performances and high cap hits - if it was this easy to use LTIR, there would be no bad contracts in the league). Also, easier said-than-done when it comes to trading Mrazek's contract. It is possible, though (you can see an example on the team I recently published).

yes... "random facts"...like each player's stats which are directly from NHL.com. Key word: "facts".

Key word is "random" as in you cherry picked stats that help your case. Such as the number of 60 point seasons for Miller although he has 217 pts in 204 games in Vancouver, missed out on more points due to shortened seasons.

Every player in the NHL "missed out on more points due to shortened seasons" - that is a hypothetical that applies to every roster player in the league. We can't possibly account for "what if" stats in the context of shortened NHL seasons (lock-out, pandemic, etc.).

"Cherry picked stats"? I compared the actual statistics of both players over their careers - that is, by definition, the opposite of "cherry picking" stats. It is ironic, however, that you decided to actually "cherry pick" stats by looking at only a 204 game sample-size of JT Miller's career.

Are you a Canucks fan? The reality of the situation is that neither of us will get to decide what any player is actually worth in an actual NHL trade or signing, fortunately or perhaps unfortunately. I think JT Miller is an excellent player, and I have no doubt that he would fetch a 'King's ransom' in a trade. And, to clarify, I don't think a Nylander trade is likely any time soon. If Nylander gets traded, I doubt it would be to VAN.
