It would work and its quite fair value but I dont think they will do it. He has had such a big impact on the habs in the past few years and he is a fan favorite. It would be disrespectful to him and the fans would be upset to lose him if we trade him for a 6th rounder.

You are way low on value there my friend. Since Hoffman and Armia can return a 4th or 5th and Gallagher is better than both them put together we are not just giving him away for free, you will have to give up something that actually hurts. At the very least I would want back a 2nd + decent prospect (someone with at least a 75% chance of being a middle 6 forward or 2nd pair RHD man)

NSH would need some serious incentive to take on Gallagher's contract.

He is a good player but his contract is extremely bad.

His contract is not that bad, sure in 3-4 years it might be bad but right now it's about average for a consistent 30 goal scorer. I don't think you can say a player is declining after a single bad season where the entire team struggled and his linemate were constantly rotated. I think you have to give him at least another half season before you can say he is in a decline. Then if he is not on pace for 25+ goals you can say he is declining and try to trade him if you want.

I wouldn't call Gallagher a consistent 30 goal scorer. He's done it twice in 10 NHL seasons.

Prior to this year he was 4 straight years of 30 goal seasons (prorated) how is that not consistent?

And we got to talk about the intangible in Gally's game. They are a rare breed.

and TBH I am ready to take the L with Gally's contract.

You have to prorate his stats, because he's on IR so consistently. Even if Gallagher's play can rebound, you can't rely on him to stay in the lineup.

He had a broken hand not a concussion or nagging knee injury or anything else chronic like a back injury or something. His injuries are from blocking shots not serious health concerns like your Gardner's or Weber's or others. Literally every player in the league runs the risk of broken bones.

Most players aren't as brittle as Gallagher. Even if Gallagher can return to somewhat of the player he was in his prime, NSH has multiple young options like Jeannot that can bring a mix of physicality and offense. They don't need to cross their fingers a banged up vet on the wrong side of 30 can stay healthy for the next five years. Even at a more justifiable cap hit, the Preds aren't lacking what Gallagher might still be able to provide.

Brittle?! LMAO, you go stand in front of a 90-100mph slapshot right to the hands and we will see how "brittle" you are! I get that there might not be a fit but just cause you don't like Gally or don't think there is a fit, that does not decrease his value.

You keep coming back to this one broken hand, like it's the only injury he's ever had. He gets banged up and misses time a lot.

What's decreasing Gallagher's value the most, is that he's still getting paid like a star player until he's 35.

I don't dislike the player. On the contrary, I've always been a fan of his, and really wanted him on the Preds. But that was five years ago. He's not that player anymore, and NSH isn't missing a guy like that anymore.

You realize that he has had a broken hand 3 times right! in 2016 he blocked a Johnny Boychuck shot and broke 2 fingers on his left hand that required surgery, in 2017 he was hit in the left hand again this time by a Shea Weber slapshot (his teammate) and in 2021 he was again hit by a teammate when Alexander Romanov hit him. So yeah I do keep bringing up he broken hand because that is his most common injury. This year he missed some time (5 games I believe) with a lower body injury (rumors were a foot injury), also contracted Covid-19 and missed time due to a non-covid illness. In 19-20 he missed 15 games with a combination of a LBI and a concussion (1st of his career) and the 2 seasons before that he played all 82 games which brings us back to the 2017 season where his only time missed was his broken hand.

Edit ** So there you go his entire injury history since coming into the league! Broken hand 3 times due to being hit by shots, 2 LBI (1 rumored to be foot, missed 5 games) 1 concussion, 1 non-covid illness and a covid illness. Yup you are right he is really brittle!!! ROFLMAO

It's not just that he keeps breaking his hand(s). He keeps piling up lots of different injuries. This recent quote isn't exactly reassuring:

“It was pretty much everything around the pelvis area they were working on,” Gallagher said. “One day, it would be one thing, the next day, it would be the next. … It was a short summer, and I can just say my body, it didn’t hold up.”

He's not a safe bet to stay healthy. He's no longer worth his cap hit, and the term left on his contract is ugly. It's a shame he broke down like this, because he was a fun player in his prime. If MTL is able to move him, I wouldn't expect positive value in the return.

I get what you are saying and I did not see that quote before but given his history of overcoming obstacles and his resilience I would still give him half a year before determining that this is his decline.

I’d take Gallagher only if Montreal retains 1.5 - 2 Million. He’s only managed to stay healthy for 4 of the 9 seasons he’s been a full time nhl player missing Atleast 18 games in 4 of the injured seasons. He’s overpaid to begin with since he only seeming can have more than 54 points if you prorate points in years he gets injured. It’s just a bad contract (too long, too much, trade/movement protections) but it’s easier to swallow at 4.5-5 million vs 6.5.
